Everyone loves to celebrate Passover with the traditional seder meal. The candles are lit, the seder plate filled, and the matzo stacked high. Join in to read, sing, eat, and observe the holiday. The many steps of a Passover seder are portrayed in this rhyming story.
I wanted to observe the holiday in some kind of way, and this adorable picture book seemed appropriate! I really loved the art style, and appreciate that it's a multiracial group, too. It was also cute to watch the kids faces and the dog and cat in the background of the pictures. I appreciated that there was a bit more explanation at the back of what Passover is about and the different items on the table. I do wish the story itself had incorporated more of that, and taught kids a little more about the meaning of Passover and the seder, and maybe had some of the song of Dayenu included, too. Speaking as a Jewish person, I love that the joy and tradition of the Passover Seder are brought to life with colorful illustrations. However, the poetry was clunky and the Seder is never really explained. The Hebrew words are incorporated in the text, but a reader unfamiliar with the items might not figure out what it is (so many things are on the table during Seder!). I wanted some explanation components, such as why parsley is dipped in salt water, what the Four Questions are, why Elijah’s cup is filled...
