Tony Shepherd's life is pretty much figured he's got a good family, he's popular at school, and he's a basketball star. But when his girlfriend disappears, he enlists the help of Charlie Wolfe, a wise-ass from "the wrong side of the tracks" who's always willing to break the rules to get results.
However, these boy detectives find themselves in darker and much more dangerous worlds than the heroes of mysteries you may have read when you were younger.
Now's your chance to read this internationally-award winning series.
Angie teaches by day, and writes film scripts and fiction the rest of the time. When she’s not teaching or writing, she’s packing a bag for another adventure, completing a goal list, playing with her camera or practising yoga.
I read a previous review about this book stating that the reader got hooked by page 16. I was intrigued. By the time I reached page 29, having not been looking at the page numbers, I remembered to flip back to page 16, confirming that it was probably around that page that got me too. Fantastic book. Look forward to reading the series!
When high school student Sheri disappears, the local community is devastated. Her boyfriend Anthony Shepherd, who's been enjoying keeping on track with his homework, basketball, and hanging out with his friends, feels like his world is crumbling around him. He doesn't know what to do, he doesn't know how to cope. That's until he meets Charlie Wolfe, a particularly resourceful teenager, and gets dragged along on their own private investigation of what has happened to Sheri.
It's ironic that the back of the book says "They're not the Hardy boys," because that's in one sense exactly what I would describe them as. I read a lot of Hardy boys when I was little, and this pulled me straight back to those happy memories. Anthony and Charlie are clever, funny, and to begin with they just aren't quite sure if they like each other. There's a lot of hilarious banter. But they get along, and they work so well together.
Counious and Gane's writing is perfect. It's never dull, though still detailed and complex, and it paints such a broad picture of everything that's going on, while still driving the story. The pacing is excellent for a thriller. We hit the floor running and we're off, but we still have time to take in the sights on the way there. It's expertly done.
And the book is beautiful - I have the paperback - and the formatting and layout is really cool. It's a nice little cherry on top of the excellent story.
To sum up, this is the kind of series you should get excited about. It's something different. Shepherd and Wolfe's adventures are hilarious and thrilling, dark but exciting. It's a breath of fresh air. I wish I had these books around when I was a teenager. I'd be as much of a fan then as I am now.
I couldn’t put this book down - and as soon as I finished it, I had to run out the same day to pick up the second one! The characters are very realistic - they talk and act like teens do (one of the authors is a high school teacher - she knows teenagers!), and are well rounded and believable. The story is gripping, and very creepy at times - it had me looking over my shoulder while I read! I can’t wait for book 3 to come out...
Phenomenal read! I adore this writing style with the antagonist point of view sprinkled in and very short chapters to break things up. It makes for a very easy read, coupled with not wanting to put it down, you're done before you even know it. Then you're left craving more...good thing it's a series!
Well, first off, wow. I've never read the first part of a book so fast. The pacing of the story was excellent. At times I felt myself actually jumping and gasping while reading. It was like I was watching an action thriller. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The characters were funny and relatable and I loved that the authors also wrote from the antagonist's point of view. I thought that was very interesting. It gives the reader a look into the messed up mind of the antagonist but also keeps a lot of details hidden so their identity is not given away. I'll be reading this authors again in the future for sure. I just loved their writing style. I was reading half the day yesterday and ended up staying up late to finish it up because there was no good stopping point. If I hadn't been reading another book at the same time, I could've finished it quicker. It's now almost 3 am so I'm wrapping up this review but if you love murder mysteries, definitely check this one out. I found this book at a used book sale and I'm so glad it caught my eye because it's probably one of the best books I've read all year.
When Tony Shepherd's girlfriend, Sheri goes missing and is presumed dead, he doesn't sit idly by. He starts trying to figure out what happened and attracts the attention of another high school student named Charlie Wolfe. As other young women are found murdered, the two team up to find the killer and maybe find out what happened to Sheri. I enjoyed the story and will be reading more in this series.
The pacing is perfect, the plot is “can’t put it down” quality, and the characters are so well developed that I couldn’t help but feel they were either my younger siblings or friends from youth. Excellent book.
Met the writers at a book signing and was intrigued. The story was well written, and I was pleased at how quickly the characters engaged my interest. Couldn’t put it down! Definitely looking forward to the next book!
Quick read with lots happening. The plot was interesting... to the point that I finished and didn't even realize how long I had been reading. There were some issues with choppy-ness which interrupted the flow on occasion but nothing too problematic. Overall, I liked the book.
Enjoyed this far more than I thought I would! Not the sort of thing I usually read, but thoroughly engaging, fast paced and very believable. Recommended!
3.5 stars. Read if you like Y/A. Page turner mystery. I could not put it down, personally. Regina, SK authors. It was scary, but low level reading. I really liked it.
From the first few pages, this book had me hooked! It was hard to put it down. I found the plot very intriguing, it also kept me on the edge of my seat a lot of the time.
I love a good mystery so this book had me excited to give these guys a try. Charlie & Tony might be an odd pair of teenage boys but their nose for mystery was exciting to read.
A psycho loose with the yearn to kill, an All-Star determined to avenge his girlfriend, and then their game begins as a Wolfe enters the fold. Along Comes a Wolfe is the start to a dark but exciting mystery series starring two boys willing to get their hands dirty to get the job done. No killer is safe when trespassing on their turf.
