The Session

Rate this book
One minute I'm in The Elk watching the footie the next minute I'm at the beach with a Polish supermodel. Fucking come on.Lena meets Robbie. Girl meets Boy. Head over heels. Eyes only for each other. They don't speak the same language, but they both know the language of love, and surely that's enough for a while – until the unspeakable happens and the truth comes spewing out. As their marriage hurtles towards oblivion, Lena and Robbie desperately attempt to find a common language and save their shared history. The Session is a heartfelt play about how couples communicate, taking in twenty years of a relationship that is based on misunderstanding and crossed wires. It received its world premiere at Soho Theatre on 3 November 2015.

"We point at the map."

This play! I wish I could have seen it performed, have seen the physicality of it and heard the Polish language in it. The snappy dialogue I've come to know Muir for is utilised so wonderfully in a play about communication or perhaps miscommunication and crossed wires.
I feel I need to reread it and bookmark the quotes and moments that particularly sparked something in my brain hole!
Wholly relevant in a world where it is so easy to travel to different countries, and communicate with people from across the globe (internet...hi!) so finding a common language or manner of communication is so important. There were also themes of identity and the concept of home and how where you come from plays into that which interested me particularly given the world we live in today.

Yes, I give out 5 stars easily. No, it does not make my review any less relevant...I'm just an enthusiastic poison. (not poison, person with a strong new york accent) (for comedic effect, i'm not from nor have i ever been to new york)
