The world trembles as the sky begins to boil! Professor X attempts a desperate rescue mission on the Starcore One satellite, but a threat from galactic legend is waiting! Who are Burning Moon, Cloud Runner, and Sky Song, and how are their fates tied to the X-Men? Earth faces destruction as the mutant heroes battle an unstoppable enemy... The Knights of Hykon! (All this and Nick Fury too!) Collects Uncanny X-Men: First Class #5-8.
The Knights of Hykon, The Sky is Falling, and The Shattered World are the conclusion to the "Hated and Feared" story.
Professor X goes up to space to check on the astronaut dudes that have called him. But it's not really Professor X. It's really just a ghosty type of his body as he's hooked up to a machine that Lilandra brought.
We learn that the Knights of Hykon are six alien warriors that love to ruin worlds and fight. Now they are on earth and it's up to the X-men to save us from their evil ways.
There isn't much comic relief in this bit of the story, but I really enjoyed the way it was drawn. It was more like a cartoon than the way I see comics of today. I enjoyed that. It was also interesting to learn the secret between the X-men, the sun, and the Knights. Apparently, they have met before. They just didn't know it.
While the ending leaves a bit to be desired, if you understand the strained relationship that Jean Grey and Cyclops have after she became the Phoenix then I don't think you will mind. I am curious why it ended that way. It's rather abrupt, but since I can't find any more comics in this series I can assume that the series didn't get picked back up.
When I first found this comic, I assumed that this is what the "First Class" movies were based on. That is not it at all. These are about a new team of X-men learning to work together. It has nothing to do with a young Professor X and Magneto scurrying off to find new recruits. But that didn't disappoint me because I rather enjoyed this story.
I still think this would be a great comic to let your tweens read. There isn't any cussing, no wardrobe malfunctions, and in only one scene are they seen drinking booze (but they really did earn a drink).
The Curse of Craeliach
Banshee is summoned back home to Ireland. There's been a death at Cassidy Keep. But is it suicide or murder? It's up to Banshee to solve the mystery as Wolverine, Colossus , and Nightcrawler tag along.
This comic was drawn differntly than the previous three. Everything was in a more serious manner. I am assuming that this has nothing to do with "The Knights of Hykon" but were done with the same characters.
Who will Stop the Juggernaut? and Death Siege are two classic comics by Chris Claremont based on the new band of X-men. I really enjoyed all the action and the way everything was drawn.
The Knights of Hykon chapters were another snorefest. No real closure to be found either as the series abruptly ended.
It does have a saving grace in that the final chapter staring Banshee was well done. Sadly it was more of a mature look rather then the fun stories expected from the previous first class books.
