"Mindful Thoughts for Mothers is the perfect present for mums everywhere. It explores a mother’s world, helping the reader to hold a sense of the ‘bigger picture’ while being present in the day-to-day." - Mental Health Foundation Motherhood is one of the most wonderful and powerful experiences we can have in life. As the early years of our children’s lives unfold, we will undoubtedly experience the joys they bring, but will also encounter the stress and demands that appear daily and nightly on the parenting path. Using mindfulness practice to manage these demands we can become more present and meet life with awareness, in the moment. These reflections on motherhood will help you find greater self-understanding and enable you to navigate a mindful path along this exciting journey.
I received an ARC of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This book is a gentle approach to parenting and stages of dealing with and living with our children as well as advice and encouragement for ourselves as mothers too. I have two children so I have experienced a lot of what this book covers and can relate to some of the advise given. This book would be a great book for a new parent or first time parent.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* For the most part this book was really insightful, im not a mother myself so im not exactly the target but I used to nanny for a single parent and wish I would have read this when the one was a baby (just sub in nanny for mom). I also read this book because I know a few people who I think would enjoy this but always like to read books before I give them to people so had to see what it was about! Great book for mothers (or any caregiver tbh)
Of all people, parents may benefit from practicing mindfulness (if only they can make the time). There are so many stresses and challenges that come with being a mom that stepping back for a moment can be incredibly helpful. This book aims to help with that. Some of the topics covered include love, the first few months, mothering together, tantrums, impermanence, the daily grind, challenges and acceptance, gratitude, , teenagers and the journey onwards, among others. This book offers gentle advice to mothers. Maybe this title will help you or a mom that you know.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.
This isn't a parenting manual but a gentle reminder that we are all human and no one is perfect (parents or children), but that's ok. So often parenting books leave me feeling less than, but this was encouraging. I just wish it was longer with more substance. It would be a nice gift for a new mom, but I don't think it's the best fit for the library where I work.
I received an ARC from NetGalley. The book will be released on January 28, 2020.
This is a pleasingly small book that would be a great baby shower gift. It well written, accessible, and allows mothers to give themselves permission to feel terrible and gives ideas on how to improve it. It would be very helpful during the early and overwhelming days when you are in shock about how relentless it is, and you feel like you are doing everything wrong.
This book could be useful as the start for a meditation on each chapter, but I found that there were a whole lot of words for not a lot of substance. Each chapter discussed a different part of motherhood, but actual suggestions on how to be mindful were in short supply. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
I was sent Mindful Thoughts of Mothers by Riga Forbes to review and honestly, its brilliant. It touches on mum guilt, mental health, mindfulness, the environment and feminism to name a few. I will definitely be adding this to my book shelf!
A lovely book that reminds you that it’s okay to give yourself a little grace and kindness. Not only is it okay, it is essential as no one else can fill your cup but you. In turn, the whole family will benefit. I have a preschooler and baby and every single chapter resonated with me.
Reflections on motherhood, yes; mindfulness practice, no. Won't make you more mindful in your daily life, could be a fast read while waiting for your tea to boil.
