In his very popular Saturday column, the "Fitzy Files," Peter FitzSimon's usually writes about famous sports men and women. But from time to time he throws in stories taken from grassroots sport and daily life. These are heartwarming and generous tales that make Australians puff out their chests with pride from being from a country that still celebrates the kind of sportsmanship remaining the ideal of all good people. These are the stories that make Australians say, Gotta Love This Country!
Peter FitzSimons is one of Australia’s most prominent and successful media and publishing identities. His busy professional life involves co-hosting the breakfast program on Sydney's Radio 2UE, writing weekly columns for the Sydney Morning Herald and Sun Herald newspapers, appearing on Foxtel's Back Page television show and, when time permits, authoring best-selling books. A correspondent for London's Daily Telegraph as well, he is also in high demand as a guest speaker and presenter
About 180 short anecdotes on the Australian life which, of course, revolve around sports! Definitely some stories to warm the cockles of your heart. I only rated as 2 stars because it's a bit much (& rather boring) to read / listen all at once. I think this book is for your coffee table to be flicked through and read only a few stories at a time.
Firstly, these are mostly sport related anecdotes, but even if you don't like sport I'd be surprised if you couldn't find some enjoyment in this book.
Second, they are a collection of very short good stories from around Australia, designed to make you feel good about Australia again. Whenever you see Peter Dutton on the TV and think we're doomed, pick up this book and read a few stories about Australians helping and loving other Australians.
What a wonderful celebration of occurrences everyday Australians often experience but go unrecorded. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, to see a different side of Australian life in an easy to read and fun way. If you want to feel good, pick this book up and have a read. It won't take you long to complete it, but it will have a lasting impact on your thoughts and feelings for the Australian people.
This is merely a collection of sports columnist Peter FitzSimons’ short, very short, sports quips. A handful of them might have been cute, but a three hour audiobook was way out of bounds. I cannot believe that this would be published; much less offered as an audiobook. I gave up after twenty unsettling minutes, and unless I suddenly wake up tomorrow with the attention span of a gnat—I’m done.
I would like to know how he got around the logistics of being our twice for his work. Once for publishing it in a news paper and then again as a collated book.
I haven't read the Fitz Files since we stopped our SMH subscription over a decade ago, but it was always an enjoyable part of Saturday morning. I feel like I have now caught up...
This book wasn't for me. I have enjoyed everything else I have read by FitzSimons, but not this. Too much sport and each story is just a snippet. Think I will stick to his histories.
