First rate! Hilarious and cute! On a level with the first book. The story continues as the Yamadas have to deal with the very real situation that they can't keep hiding Chi in their no-pets-allowed apartment for much longer. Chi expands and deepens his friendship with the troublemaker, Blackie the Cat. Blackies first appearance didn't endear him to me but after this volume, I've grown attached to him as we learned a lot more about his ways and feelings. Kanata really captures some truly hilarious and profound moments of kitten/cat behaviour. My favourites being when Chi first encounters a new (very energetic) little girl, getting a claw stuck in the curtain only to find that when one gets free another gets stuck and her hilarious attention-seeking antics. The volume promises changes for the Yamadas and Chi and I'm looking forward to it.

The Cute is still too much to handle, but it's becoming just as much about the story as it is The Cute, and that's really impressing me right now. It's still cute as anything I've read, but there were a couple scenes that were just completely heartwrenching, which is such a great sign. LOVE THIS.

Honestly if you have a cat who’s mischievous, some of these can be easily relatable as tested on my own cat.

Not gonna lie, seeing Juri trying to "play" with Chi made me so angry. Some children really aren't taught how to approach cats with consideration.

More adventures of Chi with the Black Cat! It's very fun because Chi is so temperamental while the black cat is so chill and relaxed.

I'm gonna say this: I don't like that the family is breaking the house rules but I'm glad that they're breaking it because it's a dumb rule. If pets cause property damage, just make the owners pay. Why ban pets?!

Also, Chi getting stuck in the curtain made me so anxious. I was gulping down water during that chapter. I hate seeing cats who still can't control their claws get stuck somewhere. Makes my mind go "baby!! oh no!!!" and well, that's on me I guess.

I really liked the big black cat in this book. It was cute when he came back to Chi and was scratching on her glass door. I really liked how the kitty Chi was rescued by the big black cat. I thought it was sad when the owner of the building kicked out the owner of the black cat and Chi lost her fellow friend cat. I also thought that it's not fair that the building doesn't allows pets like cats, I thought that small animals like cats should be allowed in the building because what harm would they cause that would be so terrible and big? I didn't like how that owner of the building because she was screaming and chasing the poor kitties who were outside.

Stuff I Read – Chi’s Sweet Home Vol 3

So I guess to do anything but judge this volume as I did the last volume would be rather hypocritical of me, so I guess I should start off by looking at how this volume progresses the story and the characters in the story. Luckily, this volume continues the fine job of saying something new and moving the characters in new directions. The story itself is also primed to change, as this volume is formed largely around the question of family and friendship and sacrifice. And as such this volume stands out a little more as having a bit more action and drama. This is not only about Chi being a cat put contains the tension that Chi might be found out, that the Yamada’s might have to move or give Chi up to go live on a farm. And it is this conflict that keeps the series strong and engaging and interesting.

To be fair, though, the Bear Cat steals a bit of the show in this volume, and the most interesting and dramatic sequences of the volume come from Chi and the Bear Cat interacting and growing as friends. It seems such an odd pairing, because the Bear Cat is big and grumpy and rather mischievous, but the dynamic of younger cat and older cat works well, and you get the sense that these two really become friends and care about each other. We also see more of the concern over what the Yamada’s might have to do with Chi playing in the background of much of this volume, where the mother and father will be talking about what they should do while Chi remains oblivious and cute. Things escalate when the super sees Chi, as Chi had gone with the Bear Cat on a raid into her apartment to capture some chicken. This becomes the most action-packed part of the series to date, as the Bear Cat and Chi must flee from the super and evade her to safety. It also provides some key lessons for Chi, as the Bear Cat continues to be the mentor, teaching her everything from jumping to hunting prey.

On a larger scale, though, the Bear Cat also teaches Chi about the nature of friendship, as the Bear Cat’s owners are found out and have to move away. With her friend gone, Chi has to come to terms with the fact that she cannot see him, and is understandably confused and hurt. The way in which she comes to the realization that her friendship does not change just because the Bear Cat is not near might be a little overdone and convenient, but I think it is effective nonetheless at pushing Chi’s character forward, so that she remains the optimistic and happy feline the readers have come to adore. And so while the tone of the book shifts slightly, it is reflective of the growing nature of Chi, so that the series is becoming a little more serious as Chi does. It really is an effective way of having the series grow and evolve, so that while there are still plenty of cute and funny moments of Chi being a kitten, those are tempered just as much by Chi growing up a bit.

And the pacing is leisurely and appropriate, I think. This is a comedy, after all, and a premium is put on having the hilarity of most of the situations sink in. There is a bit more drama introduced this time, as the parents at first decide to give Chi away only to find, again rather conveniently, a new place to live that accepts pets. That Chi remains clueless the entire time to the intentions of the parents and the turmoil that the son is going through keeps the volume funny and light, but it does make for a bit more complicated reading. And while the deus ex machina is rather obvious here, the series does not really pretend to be a dark piece. Again, it’s not going to suddenly turn dark, and so yes, they find what they wanted, but they are still making sacrifices to be with Chi and the relative ease of the transition does not take too much away from that. So the third volume continues the series in a good direction. I know that volume four is out, so maybe before too long I will get to read and review that one. Until then, I give this volume a 9/10.

I think this was my favorite Chi collection so far! The first two books were adorable, but mostly very episodic and sweet without much substance. This one starts to have more of a concrete story (well...it's kind of a relationship story rather than an actiony sort of story). The landlord is on the hunt for cats living in the building, and Chi may be in danger!

This volume in particular does an excellent job of exploring the relationship between cats and humans (and cats and other cats), and you REALLY want Chi and her owners to stay together as one happy family :)

My niece and I both liked Volume 3 of Chi's Sweet Home, and I fell in love with Blackie, Chi's cat mentor and friend. I do hope to see Blackie appear in future volumes, because he really adds something to Chi's life and to these stories!

Summary
Chi is off on more adventures with Blackie! Blackie, Chi's friend, continues to mentor Chi and teaches her cat life lessons such as how to use her claws to move things or how to hold onto things and how to mark territory. But when Chi scares of a bird (prey) for Blackie, Chi realizes she still has a lot to learn.

Going on these adventures with Blackie is fun, but when Blackie marks his territory at the apartment complex, he is spotted by the neighbors and is reported to the landlady. With more reports of a cat wrecking havoc on the complex, the landlady starts investigating into the reports and the Yamads are afraid they will be found out and evicted. Finally, the Yamadas decide to lay low with Chi for awhile and keep her in.

Will Chi be found out? How much longer can the Yamada family keep this up?

My Review
Chi is so freakin' adorable. I love how she continues to prance around and follow Blackie, but her rambunctious and ignorant personality sometimes gets her into trouble.

Although mainly told from Chi's perspective, I love how the author throws in at least once scene per book that pet owners can relate to. For example, Mr. Yamada tries to take a picture of Chi, but finds it rather difficult since she moves around a lot.

I just love Chi's adventures with Blackie or also known as Bear-Cat. He teaches Chi how to open the screen door and takes her on adventures with him. He also teaches her how to hunt, how to jump and climb a tree. All the skills that Chi is bringing home LOL

Of course Mrs. Super is still on her quest to find the elusive cats that are causing trouble. Unfortunately, she catches Chi and Blackie/Bear-cat. Bear-cat and his family end up moving. It makes Chi super sad. Her mommy and daddy must come up with a plan for Chi. They plan on having Chi live with Yohei's aunt and cousin in Hokkaido.

But will Chi end up moving there? Or will the family and Chi move into the pet friendly apartments near by? Will Blackie and Chi ever reunite. I hope so!

Chi follows the Bear cat and learns things about the cat world and being a cat. But when the landlady spots Chi with the Bear cat she is alerted to the presence of TWO cats in the neighborhood. She chases them to the Bear cat's home and she gives an ultimatum to the family. They chose to leave their home rather than leave their cat. Now the landlady knows to look for a kitten too. Will the Yamadas send Chi to live on a farm in Hokkaido? What will the Yamadas do?
