Rate this book
Stopping in any situation to ask, What do I know about my God? and being able to answer the question from Scripture have changed Mardi Collier s life and helped her to maintain her own personal daily walk with God. What Do I Know About My God? is part Bible study method and part powerful testimony. It shows women how getting to know the Lord as the purpose of Bible study and keeping a record of answered prayer are keys to victorious living. Mardi, wife of The WILDS director, Ken Collier, shows you how you can enjoy her method too, and how, as a result, you can make trusting and praising the Lord a daily habit!"

This was a reread for me, but I enjoyed it even more the second time. Such a simple but powerful principle. Enjoyed studying it with our youth pastors wife, another youth worker and some of the teen girls. It was neat to hear how different things stuck out to each of us.

If you truly want to know about God, I would recommend this book (and the Bible!) as a great option to delve into the character of God. Mardi Collier just barely touches the awesomeness of God. I love her idea of having a notebook full of verses that speak of God's personality and attributes.

A favorite quote: If we could get into the habit of realizing that every little interruption, every circumstance, every person, every trial, everything that comes into our lives has been sent by God, then when the major life events occur, we could be ready to rest in the fact that He is in control. If we truly believe that and trust him, we will have peace, calmness, and joy in the midst of whatever God sends.,

I really enjoyed this book a lot! In her book, Collier begins by explaining her title, What Do I Know About My God?, and teaches you how to set up your own simple notebook following her method. I appreciated that it's not a complicated method, but an amazingly simple one that can be adapted to what supplies you have available. She also explains why she chose to do a notebook and how it has helped her. The last half of the book gives examples of her notebook and how she has used it in her life. While it is admittedly more of a story telling portion, I did find it helpful and encouraging to see how the Lord used the notebook in her life. I liked her quote, We can't love Someone we don't know. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is serious about growing in the Lord! I wish I had read it sooner!!

Highly recommend Bible saturated study for women. An honest book about life and all the answers in the Bible for every question we may have in any situation or circumstance we find ourselves in.
The system for getting to know God is simple and can be used for any woman in any age or situation in life.

A comforting, encouraging, simple read.

My favorite part is the way in which Mardi writes, as if writing a letter to a friend. Her testimony is genuine and I can see how God has changed her life by knowing Him.

Can’t wait to start my own notebook. ❤️

I like a couple of things especially about this book.
1. It encourages you to put a spot-light on God while you read the Bible.
When you're reading a Bible story, instead of focusing on the character, look at what God is doing and what he is doing for them he will do for you.
2. Someone in the book was going through a hard time and someone else asked them what they could do for them, and she said, "Pray that I'll 'think right' through this." That is so true. It is far too easy to slide into a death spiral if you don't reign in negative thoughts. Keep thy heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life.
Once you get down into a chemical imbalance/depression, it is incredibly difficult to get out again. 'Think right' so you don't go down in there in the first place.

The idea behind the book is spot-on. Getting to know our amazing God better - which is my life goal now. Great tips to help a new Christian find and record God's characteristics.

But it is so saturated in Independent Baptist language and the King James Version and emphasis on performance that I felt triggered and sick and couldn't get through it fast enough. Now it will go off my shelf forever - been on there forever.

Mardi Collier has put together a thoughtful book about what she is learning about God and how she keeps a notebook to study out what she is learning about God. Along the way, she shares stories of how learning about God is changing her heart and her mind.

In Part One, Mardi shares why we need to know God and how she studies the Bible to learn about God. If you find yourself adrift or unfulfilled by your own lack of Bible study, you may find direction as Mardi Collier shares how she uses a notebook to record how she studies Scripture to learn about who God is and what He does.

The short, easily digestible chapters are full of Scripture, application, and Mrs. Collier's own experiences as she grows through her study.
One of the segments that helped me greatly during this stressful season was the chapter titled "My God is in Control." This phrase has stayed with me, "He is in control. If we truly believe that and trust Him, we will have peace, calmness, and joy in the midst of whatever God sends."
Psalm 135:5,6 For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods. Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.

While "What Do I Know about my God?" is a light, quick read with ideas to help you get started studying what we can know about God, don't expect it to be academic.

What a great book. Simple yet profound. In time as you create your own journal you will find it to be a great source of comfort, praise, and exhortation. A working journal for the rest of your life. Next to the Bible itself, it will be a reminder of who God is and how we can become more like Jesus everyday of our lives.

What Do I Know About My God?

I Know My God Better

I felt surprised. I expected a book that extolled the virtues of God, saying he’s gracious and loving. Instead, I got insight on how God uses his virtues to work in lives. Reading Ms. Collier’s stories helped me more than just listing God’s great qualities. In addition, the book is full of Scripture written out, which directly connected each story to his word. This book was a pleasant surprise.

Also she introduces a wonderful idea to implant in my own devotional time. I won’t ruin that surprise, but it’s a delightful idea that I can see anyone implementing. I was glad to see how it worked for Mardi Collier, because I could see how it would work in my life. That increased my motivation to really ask myself, What Do I Know About My God?

Excellent! It introduces a simple, yet profound way to look at scripture, and begins a lifelong project to learn more about the character of our God, and shows how what we know to be true about God affects every aspect of our lives. It teaches us to look at scripture not primarily as a "What does God want me to do?" book, but as a book that reveals the very heart of our God. The Bible isn't about me, it's about HIM!

This is a wonderfully simple idea, but so encouraging for those moments when we need to be reminded of the wonderful God who loves us so much. You can add your own reflections by starting your own journal, just dip in and out of the book or use it as a group study.
