The Mosque With contributions by 16 scholars, this study traces the history and development of the mosque, explaining its traditional religious and teaching role in Muslim society, as well as its architectural features. Full description
This book contains a collection of articles on mosques in different regions. The book is divided into three parts and has a beautiful design. The first part includes an introduction to Islam and mosques. This introduction may not be entirely accurate and may simply be a reflection of the author's understanding of Islam and mosques, influenced by Orientalism. The second part, which is the essence of the book, and the most dense part of the book is about mosques in various regions around the world. However, it did not include all regions. For example, Russia which has a large number of historical and modern mosques is not included in the book. The quality of the information varies from article to article and region to region based on the authors' writing and research style. Some writers provided fair and comprehensive information about mosques in a particular region while others only covered the iconic mosques of a particular region or provided information from a colonial and outsider perspective. The last part of the book is devoted to the modern mosque and analysis of the current situation. It is relatively short and could have been more detailed. Regardless, the book is rich with information, details, and pictures about mosques.
