Detailed colour illustrations by Mark Bergin accompany another title from the INSIDE STORY series, introducing the Islamic world - the beliefs and way of life, through an exploration of the activities associated with a 16th-century mosque.
Fiona Macdonald studied history at Cambridge University and at the University of East Anglia. She has taught in schools, adult education and university, and is the author of numerous books for children on historical topics.
Not sure why Fiona MacDonald consistently called Istanbul, Constantinople. And seemed to suggest Istanbul, the only time the name was used, was a stronghold of the Byzantine Empire; when it should have been the Ottoman Empire. She seemed to also think that only women did the packing up which there was no proof of that. A little disappointed in the obvious errors, it could have made a very good children's book.
16th Century Mosque is about how mosques were built and it also teaches about the different emperors. The mosques are usually made of glass with designs on it, hand painted and the mosques usually have domes that are huge! The book also talks about the spread of Islam and how some people named "Dais" spread the religion. The Dais used to go almost all around Asia and teach the people about Islam.
