The main problem with this book is that the first 84 pages deal with his childhood and are a waste of time.It then becomes interesting particularly with regard to his time in cine variety. His description of his experiences in the Blitz are excellent. However the book stops abruptly when he he is about to catch a train to join the early in 1942. A note on the back tells us that he was currently working on a sequel. This was never written or published so we do not get to learn of the most successful part of his career.
Not what I expected. Each chapter is dedicated to usually a single, isolated event in his life. No mention of the rag trade or on the buses. I believe that was probably meant for the sequel which never happened. Disappointing. Could have been so much better. Was a grind working my way through that
Reg Varneys autobiography 'The Little Clown' is good but also a little disappointing. no mention of The Rag Trade or On the Buses or any behind the scenes showbiz gossip. he only writes about his early years.
