To accommodate the evolution of teacher education programs, this text was developed for two 1) those serving as interns or student teachers as they complete traditional teacher education programs and 2) new in-service teachers who are part of an alternative certification program. The book's team of experienced educators and authors offers a set of practical tools, skills, and advice that teachers can put into immediate use in the field. The authors also aim to promote a high level of engagement and interaction with the program. TEACHING FOR STUDENT LEARNING retains the reader-friendly style and convenient format of the best-selling Ryan and Cooper texts. Its three-hole punched and perforated pages--along with its 25 brief, to-the-point chapters (modules)--make it easy for busy teachers to quickly find, understand, and use key information related to their most pressing needs. Accompanying TeachSource Video Cases, available in the Education Media Library, are directly tied to the text and allow students to see text concepts brought to life in real classrooms. Kindle textbooks are functionally equivalent to the print textbook. In some cases, individual items such as ancillary images or multimedia have been removed for digital delivery due to rights restrictions.

This is a must-read for beginning or prospective teachers, though definitely not for someone thinking about getting into the field. It is chock full of tips, tricks, ideas, and generalized knowledge to help the fledgling teacher survive in an oftentimes unrewarding environment.

Although it is, for all purposes, a textbook, it doesn't quite read as one. It reads with one goal: to help paint the picture in its entirety for a beginning teacher. It's realistic, compassionate, and driven to help anyone succeed.

I wouldn't take it as a teaching bible, though. It will help to give some foundational knowledge and concepts, sure, but it won't replace the inevitable role you will attempt to fill in your own way. In other words, what's written on the pages isn't set in stone and you'll have to take a lot with a grain of salt. As a resource, however, this text excels.

This book should be read by all teaching professionals! Especially great for just starting teachers. Academic language for the field of teaching are clearly defined and applied. Comes with a CD of case studies. Links to websites. A clear explanation of IEP students. Assessment is thoroughly explored. Classroom management ideas reflect ideas of Robert Marzano's philosophy of rules and procedure. Each chapter is devoted to the teacher standards. Clearly defined learning objectives are introduced and assessed at the end of the chapter with review questions.
