Claire is a #hopelessromantic. Lottie is determined to set up her BFF with Mr. Perfect. Will wants his #secretcrush to finally notice him. Bennett is a man with a plan.
Claire can’t believe it when her dream guy starts following her on Twitter. She never thought he noticed her, and suddenly he seems to understand her better than almost anyone.
But the Twitterverse can be a confusing place, especially when friends act differently online than they do in person. Things get even more complicated when Claire realizes she’s falling for someone else, the last person she ever would have expected….
Told in an innovative format combining tweets, emails, and blogs, Tweet Heart is a contemporary romantic comedy that will set your heart atwitter.
his is the part I'm always the worst at—talking about myself! So as you've figured out, my name is Elizabeth Rudnick and I'm a young adult author. I'm also a Senior Editor at Disney Press in New York City. I've edited books based on movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and Prince of Persia as well as Miley Cyrus's memoir, Miles to Go, which was a New York Times bestseller (imagine if Tweet Heart was too!) and a total blast to work on.
When I'm not working, I live in Connecticut with a big mutt named Jack Dyson (because he has the ability to suck up anything in his way) and have a habit of watching hours of mindless television. I like to think of it as research!
When I saw this book, I thought the Tweet and email set up was a fun idea. I was interested in seeing how the conversations via Twitter would work, as I myself have not been a Tweeter. I had also read other books like it. I was sadly very disappointed in this book.
All the characters are absolutely terrible, more than the typical, "I'm in high school so I"m awful," sort of way. I didn't find myself rooting for them, or hoping things would work everything out in the end. I just sat there wondering why someone didn't just smack these girls and explain the real world to them, that you can't walk around whining about not having a boyfriend and expect someone to find that attractive. Meanwhile the one sweet boy is pining over the girl, who's not worth a moment of his time. And his friend (who is quite possibly the only worth while character in the story) sits back and calls them on all their stupidity.
I found the pace to be decent, but the story incredibly dull. This is not a YA read I would recommend.
I loved the set-up this novel... being a Twitter addict myself, I found that aspect to be very unique. However that did lead to the novel being read very quickly, but I don't necessarily consider that a bad thing.
The plot was engaging enough, if not a little bit predictable, I think any reader would be able to see the outcome of this story before it happens, but it's still fun to read! With the novel being in tweet format it was hard to really 'know' the characters. The characters did represent todays teens in a realistic way, but at best they seemed two dimensional. I'd have to say out of the four characters, the main character, Claire was my least favorite. My favorite would be Bennett, he actually surprised me by the end of the story.
Overall, Tweet Heart is a quick, fun and simple read. If you looking for something entertaining but not too deep, this would be a great book for you. My one word description would be; cute!
ok i picked this up at the library because i love taking shortcuts and reading things that aren’t actually written like a book and this is written in tweets/ emails (like a meg cabot series i like) so i thought why not. but i did NOT see this cover. wow. don’t know how i missed it. and also i did not notice this was circa 2010. i’ll be honest while i was basically rolling my eyes the whole time and could predict the ending, i was kind of sucked in. the fact it was so dated was kind of making me more into it. i don’t know. definitely wouldn’t read again but i was entertained for the most part. the profile pictures really got me.
I didn't get into Twitter until last year, but I've had my account for a while now. At work, I think my friends and I converse more in Twitter, and it's kind of fun to watch and read other people's updates. Not to mention following authors and celebrities. Sometimes the best gossip can be found in Twitter, don't you think?
So I was really excited when I saw and read what Tweet Heart was about from Amazon. At first I was frustrated when I saw that there wasn't any Kindle version, so I decided to just wish and wait for it to get here. Then my friend Jana tells me she saw copies of the book in National Bookstore in Shang, and then comes my search. I finally found a copy of the book in National Bookstore Megamall, and this was one book I wasn't going to pass up on, regardless of how big my credit card bill is. :P
The moment I opened the book, I understood immediately why there was no Kindle version: because the book was really told entirely in tweets!
At first I was disappointed, but once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. Tweet Heart is a quick and fun read. Claire is indeed a hopeless romantic, who has been pining for lacrosse team captain, JD Whitcomb since she was a kid. Lottie, her best friend, goes from one guy to another, but is always there for her best friend to help her in all her boy troubles (lucky her). Bennett is Claire's guy best friend, who annoys Lottie most of the time and would rather talk and tweet about anything SciFi (or SyFy, as he often says) but is always there to be a friend to Will. Will is the smart, quiet guy who likes Claire and would listen to her swoon about JD even if it hurts him so.
Tweet Heart is a typical high school romance and mistaken identity. There's really nothing new about the plot, and if it was told in the traditional way, I don't think it would have been as charming as it is. But the tweets and emails and blog posts totally made it a different book. Since there was no narration, I had to deduce what happened in between the tweets, and since most of the characters were talkative enough, nothing is ever missing. I wasn't so sure about the length of the direct messages exchanged, though. I mean, I don't do much of direct messaging because the notifications spam my inbox. Maybe they turned it off?
It was also a great feat for the author to create well-rounded characters even with just their 140-character tweets. Claire is charming, Will is sweet, Lottie is wild, and Bennett! I love Bennett. He is probably the best character in the entire book, and I love all his references to Star Wars, Sarah Connor Chronicles, Joss Whedon and all things geeky (like mounts, for example). Despite his very annoying nature, he's also a good friend, and I liked that he had a happy ending of his own. :)
A word of warning to the kids (and everyone else for that matter), though: the romance in this novel is between people who see each other in real life, and not just on Twitter. So don't go starting online romances with people you know on Twitter (or email, or blog, or chat) alone! Remember that not everyone online is a nice person just because they talk nice.
But I digress. Again, Tweet Heart is a quick and fun read. However, I don't think all people will like this, especially those who prefer to read narratives in a book. Plus, I don't think this book will be much of a hit in the future, if Twitter loses its popularity. This book is recommended for today's generation, and anyone else who enjoys social media and a cute romance. :)
Elizabeth Rudnick pracuje v Disney Press v New Yorku jako editorka knih vzniklých na základě oblíbených Disneyho filmů či seriálů jako jsou například Piráti z Karibiku, či Princ z Persie. Když zrovna nepracuje, sedává velice ráda u televize a společnost jí dělává její pes jménem Jack Dyson.
Čtveřici kamarádů uzavírá sarkastický, nerdovský a přátelský Bennet.
Cute, uniquely presented, and lighthearted, Tweet Heart is a great romantic read. Focusing on four characters, the story is easy to follow and entertaining. Each character gets a decent amount of time and the reader can form a connection with them all.
If there had to be one character for the central focus, it would be Claire. She is the one who ties the set together. Her best friend is Lottie but she is also good friends with Will and Bennett. Though Lottie and Bennett argue and bicker, they have a mutual agreement, for the most part, to be kind on account of Claire. Claire is the typical never been kissed, never had a date, still holds her big views of romance kind of girl. She’s sweet, caring and intelligent. She’s also hopelessly pining away for the most popular guy in school.
Lottie compliments Claire and their interactions, through emails and tweets, are fantastic. They get each other, they banter, they have fun. The depth of their relationship comes through in sections of 140 characters or less. Lottie flirts and Lottie likes boys, but she also doesn’t settle. She sees a lot of guys then drops them, sometimes for seemingly silly reasons but the girl knows what she wants and goes for it.
Bennett is hysterical. Much of the humor centered around him. From his wit to his snark, he is a great addition to the set. He also has his own depth and level of caring even if he puts on a different front. He can be sweet but even when he’s trying to act cocky, its clear he’s really just a nice guy. Sure, he spends his weekends trying to beat his little brother’s video game high score and having movie marathons but he’s still a good friend.
And finally, there’s Will. In love with Claire but clueless how to tell her. Not to mention, she sees him as just a close friend- even tells him about her huge crush on JD. Not easy for anyone to handle but Will muddles through best he can. As things progress, some of his actions aren’t great and he makes mistakes, but he still shines as a character in many ways.
Tweet Heart provides a unique reading experience. While it isn’t the first book to incorporate the virtual world, it is the first I’ve read where the entire thing is told through it. Whole emails provide some longer bits from the characters, Benn has a blog that gives more insight to him, and Claire runs an advice column, the characters’ development and personalities are primarily presented through the tweets. Because of this, there is not direct insight into the character’s apart from what they are willing to share online as well as being limited in the number of characters. Rudnick has done a fantastic job still building the characters, forging their personalities, and portraying their motivations despite this limitation.
Though much of the plot is cliché and predictable, it is still well played out and Rudnick has added several things to twist it to her own. She has made four unique characters and written each one with their own quirks and habits. From emotions to banter, she covers a range of topics and handles it smoothly. Charming, distinctive, and entertaining, Tweet Heart is definitely a feel good romance.
Let me just gush about the pages for a minute. Each one is designed to a perfection. Each page has a cute background, not unlike Twitter. The blog entries are headed by spiffy blog headers. And before each tweet is a small little picture of the…er, tweeter? Tweet Heart was such a visually appealing book!
The characterization was pretty good, especially considering Rudnick had to do it in 140 characters or less. Although, readers get to learn more about Claire and Bennett through their blogs and Will and Lottie through e-mails too. I thought the characters were pretty realistic, but I hate to say it, all the characters annoyed me at one point in the story. They either seemed too shallow or too obsessed with their image, but for the most part, they all experienced some kind of transformation at the end that allowed me to appreciate the characters. Or at least made the characters more palatable. Lottie and Benn were the best considering they acted as a voice of reason throughout the novel but with just the right amount of snark.
The plot was equal parts fun and frustrating (OMG! @WiseOneWP, how could you do that?) but also a tad bit predictable. I think readers will want to snag this novel for its unique format instead of its mind-blowing plotline.
Overall, the book was a fun and fast read. I just wish there were more #hashtags. I think this is considered one of those summer day beach reads, so even though beach season is several months away, make sure you pack this book in your beach bag!
I don't have a twitter account and have never tweeted before, but after reading this book I must say I'm quite tempted to start one. Our main character Claire decides to join the masses on twitter and can't believe her luck when her crush begins following her on line. I had some issues understanding why Claire was so hung up on JD (her crush) when she didn't really know anything about him to begin with. An attraction I can understand, but a full out crush on someone who's practically a stranger baffled me. This took me a little while to overcome but eventually I powered through.
The tweet, email and conversational format was somewhat overwhelming but I settled into it and now looking back, enjoyed the different styles. Between Claire's blog, everyone's tweets and reactions to the goings on of their friends, I found myself having fun the whole way through. Because of the unique format you feel as if you're right there in the mix with the characters themselves. Readers will want to insert their own tweets and be able to send their own emails to the characters. You're getting firsthand feedback and will want to keep turning the pages to see what these characters do next.
Lots of fun to read, definitely different than anything I've read before and would say I'd read more like it in the future. For an author's debut novel, I'd say Rudnick hit it out of the park and surprised readers all over!
What do some people do on a daily basis? We tweet our life stories. Every moment of boredom we find ourselves sharing our inner thoughts and socializing with others. Social networks surround our lives so much that we finally have a YA book to share our love for it together. Elizabeth's innovative approach to writing a romantic comedy in the form of twitter was pure genius. The fast-paced plot and entertaining characters were elements for success. Claire and Lottie were the perfect best friend combination. Their constant support for each other was admirable and sweet. Joining them on twitter were their two close guy friends, Will and Bennett.
Bennett was by far my favorite character, his sense of humor and sarcastic tone made me laugh out loud. Will, on the other hand, was a sweetheart who was secretly crushing on Claire. Besides the twitter conversations, Claire and Bennett had their own blogs. Their blog entries were hysterical. Claire ran a "clueless" love question site while Bennett liked to rant on about his daily routines. I obviously related to this aspect of the book and was glad to see blogging and e-mails made an appearance. The outcome of the story was perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better ending. Overall, Tweet Heart was a cute debut that everyone should pick up! Even individuals who don't tweet will enjoy this fun filled novel. If you look past the form, a great story and characters lie within it.
I can not say enough good things about this book. I absolutely loved it! Elizabeth did an awesome job for her debut novel. I love reading books in diary form, or in this case, e-mails, blogs and tweets! I finished this book in 4 hours. Would have been sooner but I have kids so I couldn't sit right down and read this like I wanted to. The characters in this book were so much fun. I found myself laughing out loud on the second page. Elizabeth has such humor in her writing that it makes you want to keep reading. For example, Claire writes an e-mail to her best friend, Charlotte. Charlotte is on vacation so Claire is writing her an e-mail to tell her what has been going on. In one part of the e-mail Claire starts talking about how she cut her hair and got highlights. She was saying how horrible it looked and she writes this to her friend:
"Seriously Lottie, it's worse than that time you cut my bangs while we waited in line for school pics and told me that uneven was the new even. I still don't think my mother has forgiven you for that."
I laughed out loud reading that. Maybe it was just funny to me because one of my friends cut my bangs when we were in kindergarten and my mom was not happy about it at all! lol. This was just an all around amazing book to read and I suggest it to everyone!
I had loads of fun reading this book. It's a really really fresh format to read, what with all the technology we have and using that to tell a story. A story I can really understand.
Can I just say Bennett is adorable? I don't have a guy friend, but even though he's sarcastic and ridiculous at times, I'd love to have a guy friend like him. It was because of him that I extremely enjoyed reading this book.
There isn't really anything special with the story (cliche, really), but I guess the way it was written and presented made me love this book. In my opinion, Claire and Will are just like any other teen who are suffering from a bad case of misunderstanding and good intentions going terribly wrong. It's a simple and pretty much straight forward story. And very realistic. I think the way the tweets were written gave this story a bit more of a realistic feeling to it.
And actually, I loved the way Lottie and Bennett ended up more than Will and Claire. Don't get me wrong, but there's just something about the dork ending up with the Lacrosse Queen.
I'm lucky to have friends who are like Claire, and friends like her are the best. They're really the ones who will get you through stuff like love and heartaches and high school!

This was such a great book! I first heard of it when I saw one of my GR friends, and a book review I admire had read and reviewed it here and on her youtube channel. Took a look at the description on here, and it looked good. I'll admit I was a bit saddened when I found out there wasn't a Nook version available. Oh well. Then today, I was with my best friend at a mall, and we were at a bookstore. While perusing, I saw a lone copy of this book standing on the shelf. It was practically crying out to me. I ended up buying it, and devoured it today. This is a very good story. It's reminiscent of TTYL, in that it is told through tweets, emails, and blogs (which happens to be the book's tagline). I thoroughly enjoyed each character and how they developed. I laughed and got angry and felt all the things you're supposed to feel from reading. If you like a good, short and cute story, check this out.
A fun book that's written a little differently. Claire has a crush on JD. That gives Bennett an idea and convinces Will to pretend to be JD on Twitter. At first he doesn't agree but in the end, he does. The four friends were awesome. Reminded me of another fun read called A Match Made in High School. For readers who like a different style of writing and book or like just a fun book to read sometimes.
I really enjoyed this. It's a quick and easy read because of the format, but what's really impressive about this is that the characters, both male and female, emerge as fully-formed, three-dimensional people through what they write in 140-character bursts. That's some good writing! Also, it's a really charming and really sweet love story. Highly recommended.
Tweet Heart, a well packaged deal to discover frienship, life's trifles, and love. A present for all teens who want to learn about life's choices through twittering!
Fast paced and light hearted it keeps you pondering what will happen next. A teen drama that will keep your heart fighting for the main characters to find their partners and love.
I had no idea the whole book was in tweets but it was kinda a nice surprise. I hope this doesn't catch on otherwise it will be the death of literature. It had some funny moments though, I gave a chuckle here and a chortle there so.. no harm, no foul.
Very cute, sweet and fun book. If you are looking for a fast, cutesy read, I definitely recommend this one! How could you not like a book called "Tweet Heart"?
What a beautiful book. I really like that it is written in tweets, blog posts and e-mails. It's a light, perfectly summery read. Kind of cliché, but I didn't mind. It's just so sweet and aww :)
Book #: 29 Title: Tweet Heart Author: Elizabeth Rudnick Popsugar Cat.: A book involving social media Goodreads Cat.: A book you can read in a day Dagonell Cat.: An epistolary Rating: 4 stars
Claire is a shy nerd in love with JD, the captain of the lacrosse team. Her best friend Lottie is a party animal. Will is a nerd in love with Claire. Ben is Will's best friend and he's a science fiction geek. Since JD doesn't bother with electronic media Will decides to make a fake account to make Claire thinks JD is interested in her. Claire is starting to realize something is off, online JD is brilliant and witty, offline JD can't talk about anything but lacrosse. Everything explodes in Will's face and Claire is crushed. Eventually she realizes that online JD, Will, is the man she is interested in. The entire novel is tweets, emails, and the advice column Claire writes for the school newspaper.
I picked up this book thinking it would fly by fast since it's all in Tweets. Every other IM book I've ever read just flew by but this one, this one took me three days. I could barly drag myself through it. So much for a short and sweet alternative to all the other Young Adult books out there.
It was a cute little story and if you want a cute little love story than fine read it. But even I who am head over heels in love and always love finding myself in a dreamy haze of romance books I would much rather have read an actual book. This just left me going 'cute, but what a waste of time'.
Dear It Girl books, please, please find your way to my doorstep before I'm forced to read more books like this while I wait for you!
I love stories that are written in this format- I think it is a really cool idea. I do like Twitter. However, this story seemed waaaayyyy too immature for me (even if I would have read it ten years ago, seriously). Which is saying a lot since I have been reading a series designed for middle schoolers..... Anyways, the characters weren't very likable. I had to quit.... sorry....
I just want more of Lottie and Ben's relationship!! I love them together!! I also want more of Claire and Will's relationship because they are perfect for each other! Ben is definitely my favorite character!! He's amazing!! He's perfect!!

The unique format of this story was well-executed and really brought the characters to life! Their language, feelings, and actions felt true to real teenagers. Overall a quick, entertaining read that'll leave you feeling warm and fuzzy.
