I must admit I struggled with this Amish mystery. I just found it hard to become enthusiastic about the storyline. Grace has problems. Someone is bent on sabotaging her father's horse trading business. A business she's endeavoring to take over since her father's death against the established norms of the community. Grace comes across more as a flustered beginner rather than a person with experience trying to keep the business together. I felt she was sold short as a character. Jake Kaufman, our FBI specialist has an Amish past. I don't know if this was a help or hindrance as they investigate the horse shinnanigans. Thank you to Harlequin and NetGalley for this ARC.
Grace Miller is taking over her father's horse trading business, she has steeled herself for the backlash, but never expected that she'd be up against a killer.
Jack Kaufman is an FBI agent with Amish roots, can he face pieces of his past to help keep Grace safe.
Grace never expected to find herself embroiled in the middle of a high stakes horse stealing ring. She is a brave woman ready to fight social norms and fights for her livelihood. She is compassionate, and courageous as she digs for the truth behind what is happening to her. She has a gift for training horses, which makes it difficult for her to fit in amongst her community as her colleagues are men.
Jack grew up among the Amish, so the case brings back all sorts of memories for him. He is drawn to Grace, and finds that she is understanding and easy to talk to, and in turn he understands the pressures that she faces.
A suspenseful read the brings the modern world and Amish lifestyle together in this high stakes adventure. Enjoyable read, with strong characters that question norms, and fight for love.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Can you imagine an Amish woman being accused of stealing thoroughbred racing horses, and the FBI tracking her to her home? This is what happens to Grace Miller, a young woman who is trying to keep her home, business and care of her ill father on her shoulders. Enter Jack Kaufman as the FBI, and I wondered how long before these two were attracted to one another? Now whom is shooting at them, and who is stealing horses. Surprises abound here, and I kept changing my mind as to whom the culprits were.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Harlequin, and was not required to give a positive review.
A fast-paced edge of your seat read. As many of you already know I am a huge fan of Amish fiction and Love Inspired has done a great job in adding some adventure to the typical Amish fiction.
I especially liked Amish Country Undercover as it took place in my home state of Kentucky. Grace has spunkiness that at times pushes the limits of her faith but she needs it to keep her family together.
This is the perfect read for any romance reader out there who also likes adventure.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Harlequin - Romance (US & Canada), through NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.
NetGalley: Secrets, sabotage and small-town danger.
Someone wants an Amish woman dead.

Short story but loved it. I will have to read more of her stories..I loved the plots and character's and the cover. I was able to get in to so easy and didn't want to put it down.
Amish Country Undercover by Katy Lee is a well plotted Amish mystery. It takes some skill to pull off a realistic Amish mystery and this author did a fabulous job.
Grace was interesting character. Although she loved her Amish life she had a lot of spunk. She was running her dad’s horse trading business. She was willing to try and catch the people stealing her horses. But she also abhors violence and anger.
It was sad how her mother died. I live 2 hours from a community and you will see them with their horse and buggy on the side of the interstate. It really makes me think of how dangerous that can be now.
Jack was a former member of an Amish community in Colorado. It was sad how he was treated by the community and his own family. He ended up becoming an FBI agent. He is working undercover to find who is stealing prized thoroughbreds. He thinks it may be Grace until he gets to know her.
I didnt expect this many plot twists and surprises in an Amish mystery and totally enjoyed the story. The dialogue with Grace and Jack was through the provoking and the action kept me turning the pages.
Sexual content - he finally kissed her! Violence - someone is shooting at her, someone gets kidnapped
This was a good Amish mystery with a lot of action and a good plot. This was the first one I have read that had guns in it was kind of weird but it worked. This is a nice clean book with no swears and sex. I really enjoyed it.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ACR, I voluntarily read and reviewed.
"Amish Country Undercover" is a romantic suspense novel. Unfortunately, the author seemed to have only a superficial knowledge of horses and the Amish. In order for this book to work, several people who were very familiar with horses and who were familiar with the specific horses (either from careful study or from daily contact) didn't notice when one horse was switched for another. Grace goes to a track to buy the standardbreds that are too slow to race. Someone is switching out the horse she bought with valuable, fast thoroughbred horses. For those who don't know, thoroughbreds and standardbreds look different and race differently. Even if they switched horses of a similar color (which doesn't seem to be the case), a horse person would notice the difference. The author also made mistakes about things like hay (rather than straw) being used as bedding and a sulky being referred to as a cart.
So much of the story didn't come across as realistic to me. The hospital security was completely lacking (as Jack, undercover, was able to carry a hidden gun around, and unknown workers were trusted even when hospital personnel knew Grace was in danger). A nurse gave a patient's medical information to an unknown person who was in an area he wasn't supposed to be. And so on.
While the main characters were likable, they both came across as horribly inept. Grace was supposed to be good at identifying horses suitable to be used as Amish buggy horses, but she didn't even notice that the horses she's bringing home weren't the ones she's buying. The hero twice fell for obvious ruses to get him away from something he's protecting. When he realized the first ruse, that should have clued him into who was doing this scheme, but he completely overlooked that. There was suspense from repeated attempts to steal horses, kidnappings, and attempts kill Grace and Jack. There was no sex or bad language.
I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
Someone keeps stealing Graces horses and finally she spots the thieves in action, when in comes Undercover FBI Agent Jack getting in the way. Now its a matter of figuring out who is behind the stealing and who to trust, Grace thinks Jack is among the thieves (He did show up at the same time as them), meanwhile Jack saw her with the stolen horse so she must be apart of the scheme of horse stealers. Diving deeper into the mystery there is so much more then they know and its clear Graces life is in danger and Jack must go undercover as one of the Amish to protect her.
I normally don't find myself drawn to books that have Amish people in it but I was offered the book to read for free so I figured why not? So I like a good mystery suspense novel and this was perfect for me it brought me out of my comfort zone I suppose you'd say. The Amish culture lift isn't something that interests me so I wasn't sure I was going to like this book since I knew Jack was going to have to go undercover and looking past that I did find myself enjoying this book. There was so much going on, plenty of near misses. Plenty of mystery and reveals that kept me hooked wondering where the story was going. While you can tell there was an attraction between Grace and Jack this book was clean which I did like, theres the glaring obvious difference between Grace being Amish and Jack being English and if they want to be together something has got to give and someone ultamatly needs to sacrifice their lifestyle. I loved that there was plenty of twist and turns and overall this book was pretty good I really enjoyed it.
This is a new to me author and her writing is swell. Grace Miller has a lot on her hands and just wow to have something like added to her burden? Unbelievable! I don't see how she did it all. I think Grace is a pretty special person and she has a lot of spunkiness too. This story was wonderful and I especially loved it since it took place here in Kentucky where I live! I love Amish fiction and when I seen this I knew I had to snatch it up! I wasn't disappointed at all! This book will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat to see how Grace Miller handles all of this stuff being thrown at her. So not fair!! Especially when she's trying to keep her family together. I really loved this fast action and the twists and turns that went with the story. This author has managed to weave all the right ingredients to keep you on the edge of your seat. I too live near an Amish community and sometimes I will see them going through town or parked at Save a lot, or just going down a country road in Nicolas Co. They are an interesting people that's for sure! And can they cook!! Oh my! Some of this story may not seem real to some folks but that's why it's called fiction. I love fiction mixed in with a little reality because it's entertaining and a good story like this passes the time. I also like how some of the scenes in this book raises the hairs on the back of my neck now that's suspense! My thanks to Harlequin and Netgalley for a complimentary copy of this book. NO compensations were received and I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own. .
My review today is on the love Inspired Suspense, Amish Country Undercover. I always enjoy Amish stories and I really enjoy suspense stories so this is a no-brainer for me. I really like Katy's books. She's an awesome author. This story is well written, full of adventure, and action packed. I know you are going to love it.
Grace Miller is taking over her father's business of horse training. Her father is slowly loosing his memory and thought life. It is not proper for a woman to run such a business in her community. So she is trying to hide the facts. The bishop is trying to force her to marry a man that can take over the business but she is refusing. She doesn't trust him.
FBI Agent Jack Kaufman is undercover. His mission is to find out who is stealing thoroughbred horses and stop them. He follows one such horse and it leads to a young Amish woman home. She doesn't appear to know that the horse she brought home is a stolen horse. He catches one young man as he breaks into the barn to take the horse but he doesn't get the answer he needs. He knows he must protect this little Amish family. Will his own Amish background get in the way? Can he keep his heart safe from this beautiful woman?
A journey to discover who is setting it up to look like Grace is the thief. A struggle to stay one step ahead of a thief turned killer. God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you two. A good plan and not for evil. Give Him your heart and watch Him work in your life.
“Amish Country Undercover” by Katy Lee was a very good read for me. Although I have stopped relying so heavily on Amish novels at this time, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one.
Grace Miller is slowly taking over her father’s business of trading horses. Her mother has passed away in an accident and her father is slowly falling deeper into dementia. Unknown to her, she is being used in a horse theft scheme and someone in her community is involved.
The FBI has been informed by a suspicious member of the horse community and has sent one of its agents to ferret out the criminals. At first Jack, the FBI agent is sure that Grace is involved in the theft ring. Until she and her father come under gunfire, and kidnapping, he is sure that one or both is involved.
I was caught up in the drama of this story and did not know until the end just how intricately the cast of characters was involved and who the criminals were. Ms. Lee has written a true suspense novel for Harlequin and I enjoyed it.
Amish Country Undercover is a fantastic mystery written by Katy Lee. This story is filled with suspense and the author has done an excellent job telling her story thru her characters. There is danger at every turn but nothing the undercover FBI agent can't handle. With horses being stollen from a local ranch all signs point to an Amish woman and her daed. But wait is this even possible or maybe she is just an easy target. As the story winds down and starts to play out who is responsible for the thefts and who is responsible for the deaths will be jaw dropping for the reader. There is also love of family, faith, and community in this amazing story.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others. This is my first story by this author and I am anxious to see what she comes up with next.
Congratulations to Katy Lee on writing such and intriguing story for her readers enjoyment.
I enjoyed reading this Amish suspense story. It’s a very unusual storyline for an Amish book, yet still honors the Amish way of life that we love to read about in Amish fiction. I love it when I think I have a mystery solved, then the mystery takes a turn that I never saw coming. That happened several times in this book. The tension kept building unto the very end of the book. The characters are easy to relate to and I especially cared about what happened with Grace. I’ll be watching for more from Katy Lee. She has my attention as a Christian suspense writer, and I’m hoping for more books like this one.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
okay I liked this book it was really good. FBI Agent Jack Kaufman is an ex Amish man who was shunned by his family and community so he turned to being a lawman to right wrongs in the world.. He is sent to Rogues Ridge, Kentucky to find out who is stealing horses and then selling them..this is where Grace Miller and her Amish horse-trading business comes in.. Grace is a rebel in a sense of tha she goes against her Amish community over taking over her father's business because he has dementia and can no longer run it...Now Grace and Jack have to team up and find horse thieves and killers while following God's plan..
I really enjoyed this story. Its a great story about your past coming back to the present for one person. Jack Kaufman left the Amish world for personal reasons. Then he ends up helping Amish horse-trader Grace Miller. This is a great suspense book. Katy does a great job of having secrets in this book. Some are bad but there is a few good ones. Its well written and quite a page turner for it has you wondering what will happen next. The ending will surprise you. I will be looking for more of this series. J
This is my first time reading a book by Katy Lee & now I’m hooked. Amish Undercover was so good! I could not wait to see what happened. Suspenseful and a real page turner and a great love story! You should read it!
Yet another one that falls short. This boom needed far more character development. Everything felt rushed and short changed. More time needed to be spent developing the characters and the story line before jumping into the action of the book.
This is a beautiful story of love that blossoms between two seemingly different people. You never know when love will find you and both of them fought against their growing attraction for different reasons. Life circumstances have brought Grace and Jack together to figure out who is stealing valuable horses. It did seem odd that Grace could be swindled so easily but when you take into account the burdens she carries and her feeble attempts to fool her own people - I can see why she was distracted. It would be very scary to have thefts, gunfire, and kidnapping in an Amish community but it does happen and that makes this story even more real to life. This is a wonderful story of love, reconciliation, and second chances. Highly recommend!
