Papa: Figuring Out What Matters

Rate this book
Award winning essayist Brent Olson takes you into his world.

From an old house on the edge of the prairie in western Minnesota, Olson takes you on a funny and moving tour of the neighbors, ghosts, and ancestors who have helped him figure out what matters. Along the way he introduces the reader to the delightful complications and clarifications that come with a granddaughter from Ethiopia.

This is a journey as personal as one small brown face first seen in an airport hallway and as expansive as his take on the rights and responsibilities that come with being a father, an American and a citizen of the world.

Laugh, cry, pound the table in indignation, and join Brent Olson in "Figuring Out What Matters."

A nice collection of articles by Brent Olson; humorous, a bit self depreciating, heartfelt, and just plain "homey," especially if your home is a rural midwest small town or farm.

Having been served a tasty $5 breakfast by the author and chatting with him a bit he's clearly a genuine, insightful, and caring man and this comes across in his homespun vignettes.

I read a few, then digested them, and then read a few more. It was good.

If you get a chance stop in at the Inadvertent Cafe and spend a few minutes with the fry cook who penned this book. I enjoyed him and his book.
