When twenty of the world’s most powerful leaders meet at the G8 Summit, the fate of the world will rest on one man’s shoulders.

Twenty world leaders meet for the G8 Summit at the beautiful Cheyenne Resort in Colorado Springs. But an ugly plot lurks beneath the surface: a terrorist group, The Fallen Angels, plans to wreak havoc on the Summit.

With the Secret Service, the FBI, Homeland Security, the military, and security from twenty different governments on hand, shouldn’t the resort be the safest place in the world?

It seems impossible that a terrorist group could infiltrate the Summit. And yet they do. Within minutes, twenty world leaders are taken hostage, and Richard Coffee, the terrorist group’s leader, makes his first demand: release twenty detainees from Guantanamo Bay, or he’ll execute one leader each hour until his demands are met.

Only one man can disrupt this plot. Derek Stillwater is that man.

Working undercover as a maintenance man at the resort, Stillwater will wage war on the world’s deadliest, most sophisticated terrorist organization, picking off the terrorists one by one—until he comes face-to-face with an evil force from his past, Richard Coffee, The Fallen Angel himself.

Be warned! Once you start reading Mark Terry's "The Fallen," you won't want to stop until the end. That's because this book is packed with action and I mean A-C-T-I-O-N.

Terry sets the novel at the Cheyenne Resort in Colorado Springs, at the G8 Summit where twenty world leaders will be meeting. Before the summit begins, a terrorist group, "The Fallen Angels," is already picking off security forces and inserting themselves in their places. The group is led by Richard Coffee, a disenchanted former Army Special Forces operative who aims to secure the release of his comrades detained by the United States at Guantanamo Bay. Breaching the resort's inner security proves easy for The Fallen Angels since Coffee has recruited many of the G8 members' own security people to join his cause. And once inside, The Fallen Angels hold hostage the G8 leaders, threatening to kill one leader an hour until their demands are met.

Meanwhile, Dr. Derek Stillwater, working undercover at the resort as a maintenance man, is the government's only hope for a good outcome. Stillwater specialized in biological and chemical warfare and counterterrorism in the Army Special Services and worked with Richard Coffee before Coffee's fall from grace. Long thought dead, Stillwater is very much alive, but does he have the smarts, strength, endurance and downright luck to pick off Coffee's men and end the siege?

Author Terry's chapters are short, but the action is long in this gripping novel. He surprises readers with page-turning twists and turns. I found Derek Stillwater to be a world-class hero and I can only hope that Terry continues to tell his story. I highly recommend action junkies read this one. They won't be disappointed.

This was a very quick, fun, action filled and thrilling read. It would make a good Die Hard type movie.

Boy, Mark Terry certainly knows how to pack a punch! I was riveted in this story from beginning to end and didn't have a clue what to expect next. There were so many close encounters taking place that, sometimes, I had to put the book down for a few seconds to take a few deep breaths before continuing the story.

Mark Terry is one author I will follow closely. I have to admit that, after reading this time, he has become one of my favourite authors. He makes me forget about EVERYTHING; his characters' lives become my own and I find myself wondering what will become of ME by the time I've finished reading the book.

Amazing! I finished the book and wished I could go have coffee with the author to pick his brain and figure out how he could come up with such a plot... I'm still excited and I finished reading this book a few months ago.

Note: I just looked on Amazon and see there are multiple titles featuring Derek Stillwater. I will be a happy lady soon because I intend to read each and every one. :)

A dear friend told me recently to never give up writing; I say the same thing to you now. You have a gift for writing and it would be a shame to set it aside.

Terrorist Thriller

I really enjoyed the main character, Dr. Derek Stillwater. Each chapter in this provided high anxiety excitement. I loved that Maria brought a little levity to this fast pace story. I look forward to reading about Derek's future adventures.

I highly recommend this book. I read it in two days, I could not put it down.

This book was well-written and very detailed, but moved a little too slowly for my tastes. The setup stretched out for far too long, especially given that this is the third book in a series, but it was an otherwise solid read.

Great read

Lots of action and adventure. Hard to believe one man could take so much physical punishment and still be the hero. Ready for another.

Readers who love the high paced thrillers that provide an adrenaline rush of a read are in for a treat with the latest Mark Terry novel, “The Fallen.” The series hero, Derek Stillwater, working off the grid at a G8 Summit held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, has his hands full when a terrorist group called the Fallen Angels manages to compromise security at the conference.

Stillwater is working deep under cover as a maintenance man at the Colorado resort where the G8 Summit is being held, so he has a good understanding of the layout of the building and how to work around the terrorist activities, as he picks them off one by one, once they have taken the world’s leaders hostage. There’s lots of climbing in ceiling vents, which might get a little tiring by the time the book is over, but otherwise the story is nonstop action and mayhem.

The leader of the Fallen Angels, which eventually turns out to be a Colombian terror group working within a larger body, is Richard Coffee, a fellow special ops soldier gone rogue. Stillwater knows him well, which makes the battle more intense and more personal. The story really focuses on the planning behind the scenes, and the likelihood that there will be disaster after the fact, as the FBI and Homeland Security work from the outside, setting off the traps lay for them by the Fallen Angels.

Believe it or not, there’re also several women involved in the counter-terrorism rescue by Derek Stillwater-one an employee of the resort who seems more fearless than any average woman in that situation and the second a more likely Russian FSB officer, who knows Stillwater and is trained in stealth planning and counter-terrorism measures. There’s a bit of an interesting twist at the end with the two women, to give author Mark Terry credit.

Mostly, this is the type of writing that will appeal to those who wonder “What if?” What if terrorists were able to seize control at an international summit? What if the Vice President had to start making national security decisions? What if the Department of Homeland Security had to work from outside the summit with little insight into maneuverings on the inside? It’s rough and tumble action at a constant pace inside, with a lot of bad decision making on the outside. For thriller junkies, it’s a book destined to please; for others, maybe less so, although it has some valuable statements to make about the government operating in a crisis.

The story begins with a group of The Fallen Angels taking over a checkpoint to the G8 Summit, a gathering of the world’s top leaders that are meeting at the Cheyenne Resort in Colorado Springs. It is the site of the G8 Summit where the world’s top leaders are meeting. The Fallen Angels are terrorists who have plans of their own for the summit.

The US military, FBI, Secret Service and Homeland Security are working together with the security groups of the foreign diplomats to make this event very secure but things do not go according to their plans. In steps Derek Stillwater, a former FBI agent who is now working undercover as a maintenance man at Cheyenne Resort. As such, he has pretty much free reign of the resort and knows all the nooks and crannies. He also knows the head of The Fallen Angels, Richard Coffee who manages to capture the 20 leaders within minutes of their arrival and demands that 20 detainees from Guantanamo Bay be released. Stillwater’s girlfriend gets involved and proves quite helpful along with a former Russian acquaintance. Stillwater uses his knowledge of the enemy, the floor plan of the resort and his plain ingenuity to try to stop this plot.

Terry has written a true thriller that has an intriguing plot filled with action and interesting characters. Derek Stillwater is a likable hero and I would love to read more books centering on him and his adventures.

What better location to plan a terrorist attack than a G8 Summit were all the world leaders and their staffers are attending the summit at the Cheyenne Resort in Colorado Springs? This is exactly what Richard Coffee of The Fallen Angels is planning to do and it's up to agent Derek Stillwater to stop them.

The story follows Derek who has been undercover at the resort posing as a maintenance man as he tries to stop the terrorists. Their plot is sophisticated and extensive and appears to be infallible, but they did not take into account that Derek was on the site. He manages to pick off one terrorist at a time, but not without a number of attacks against him. He gets shot, stabbed, punched, falls down elevator shafts, and yet, he carries on with the mission to stop this attack. The action is non-stop in this heart-pounding political thriller. The secondary characters, especially Maria, are well-fleshed out. I loved that Maria was a strong, savvy woman who didn't cower in the corner when the terrorists attack.

While I had to suspend belief that any one man could sustain so many injuries and still carry on, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. After all, how many times did James Bond get in tough spots and yet managed to save the world? The author gives us snippets of Derek's life, enough to make me read the other Derek Stillwater novels, and that's the highest praise for any author. Fans of political thrillers will certainly enjoy this.

"The Fallen" by Mark Terry is a suspenseful novel that packs more action into its 279 pages than an entire season of the TV show 24 and whose hero, Derek Stillwater, is reminiscent of a less angry Jack Bauer.

The G8 summit is getting ready to begin in Colorado Springs and with 20 of the world's leaders planning to be in attendance, no expense has been spared to make this gathering as safe and secure as possible. But despite all the precautions, a terrorist group called The Fallen Angels, manages to infiltrate the summit and take everyone hostage. The leader of the group, Richard Coffee, has agreed to kill one world leader every hour if his demands are not met and the FBI, Secret Service, US Military and Homeland Security are scrambling to come up with a plan to stop him. Luckily undercover agent Derek Stillwater is on the inside and has no desire to see his old foe win this round. Does one man have what it takes to stop an entire group of terrorists on his own?

"The Fallen" is a thrilling roller-coaster ride from beginning to end with more twists and turns than Lombard Street in San Francisco. Mark Terry has created a likable and engaging hero in Derek Stillwater and, while this is the 3rd book in a series, it truly stands on its own as a highly entertaining, political action thriller that any reader would thoroughly enjoy.

Dr. Derek Stillwater's past has finally caught up with him. A former friend, now deadliest enemy has taken over a secret conference and holds the most powerful people in the world hostage. Stillwater must endure pain and hardships to stop a group of terrorists called The Fallen.

This is my first Stillwater novel and definitely will not be my last. I plan to go back and read from the beginning. Reading the book was like watching scenes from a movie. The action was fast pace and very entertaining.

Stillwater never lets me down. Love this character and all of his adventures.

Stillwater comes out of hiding under his secret identity to face Fallen for a final time. The Fallen Angels joined forces with another group of terrorists and takes the world's leaders hostage. This is probably the most battered we've seen Derek, but he comes out on top as always. Action packed, edge of your seat, nail-biting read. 5 stars isn't enough!

I thoroughly enjoyed THE FALLEN by Mark Terry which kept my interest from beginning to end. Derek Stillwater is the main character and hero of the story. Against overwhelming odds, he takes on a terrorist group by himself - a la DIE HARD. It appears he's invincible, but it's a great action-packed adventure if you overlook that point. My only complaint is that the first third of the book - the planning and setting up took forever. However, afterward, the action was non-stop. Highly recommended.

This story was fast moving from the beginning. The only incident I questioned was the taking down of the perimeter post. I would have fully expected it to have been monitored with visual electronics. Other than a hero who never gave up in spite of numerous injuries I enjoyed the tension that kept me engaged throughout.

Let's be clear: Ulysses, this is not. But holy cow, The Fallen a fast-paced action-thriller, sort of an erudite (and written) Die Hard. Brains, brawn, blood, and a couple of babes who totally hold their own with the boys. Loved this.

Another very well done Derrick Stillwater novel, this one taking Stillwater to the G8 summit, held (in the book) in Colorado. Terrorists are bent on taking hostages and accomplishing something - what is less clear.

This is a well written and exciting story and I really enjoyed it.

This was actually a fun read. Although I think it is actually the second or third in a series that I Need to do some research on to see if it is not. They refer back to the past of the main character quite often about a betrayal so I want to see if I can find that book.

This was my first book by this author. Quite good, along the lines of a Mitch Rapp, jack Reacher, or Dirk Pitt adventure.
