One Girl resources show young women that they have a specific role in impacting the world, inspires them to discover their passions and leadership styles, and encourages them to effectively carry out their purpose. One Girl Can Change the World shows girls that God has a particular place for each of them in his kingdom and will lead them to change themselves, their schools, their towns—even their world.
I picked up this book as a reference for my mentoring role with high school students. It's a book written for young women to encourage them in ways they can change the world. In their words, "young women really need to know, in the innermost fiber of their beings, that they can change the world. And they need practical knowledge about how to do it."
Mitchell and Goad explore the steps to help motivate young women to find their calling and to go after it. When I first saw a chapter about princesses I wanted to stop reading but I stuck with it and found it to be the opposite of what I assumed it would be. Instead they say, "God's idea of a princess is a warrior! Though you live in a world that makes every attempt to lure your heart toward superficial things, as a princess in God's kingdom, God calls you to battle!" They challenge girls in the idea that women that change the world aren't the ones usually following all of society's roles.
The authors dig into issues of learning to say no and to stick the mission and path that you choose or you can get burnt out super quick. They explore that your calling is in who you are and that it just takes a bit of time exploring yourself to find the things that give you energy, fuel you and you'd do even if you didn't make money from it.
I was glad that the authors choose to touch on valid points for young women like gossip, teamwork and how to stick with it when you run into obstacle after obstacle. Overall, I think it's a great book to read with a young woman and work through the questions at the end of each chapter. I think this book is a great tool for a youth leader and groups that want to motivate young women.
One of my favorite parts from the book sums it up for me, "Never, ever believe the lie that you are "too young" to make a difference, "too young" to lead the way, or "too young" to seek out God's plans for your future. In God's terms there's no such thing as "too young"!"
This was an amazing book. This is one of two nonfiction (christian) books that I have and will return to over and over throughout the years. "One Girl Can Change the World" is inspiring as well as excellent at offering practical advice in helping girls achieve their goals. Highly recommend.
it is a good book but got a little boring at times it gave a good message and some of the thing did not make since a all but like i like the moral of it so over all it was a pretty good book!
