Join Clementine and all her friends for a rollicking adventure along the coastline! Help build sandcastles and play in the surf, or admire starfish and seagulls while also learning about how to care for the oceans and the environment. After a wonderful day spent in the sand and waves, enjoy a picnic under the stars and fall asleep dreaming about all the fun you had. Let Clementine be your guide on her greatest adventure so far-to the beach! What a beautiful, diverse world we inherited, a planet simply bursting with innumerable wonders to enchant and delight us. At the core, Beachcombers is a children's book about gratitude and the need to both contribute in practical ways to an environment we should protect and to imagine the fullness of our origins, so we can shape an equally bountiful future. The story names birds, fish, fauna and other animals as a way to weave a tapestry of specific creatures whose ecosystems need care, and the sounds and rhythms of their pronunciations when spoken aloud will entertain and mesmerize young readers. The children, and their dog, lead us and teach we should enjoy the mysterious and fanciful world all around us, but we should also act as caretakers for our environment. After we work and play, we are inspired to indulge our imaginations and learn to dream. After a full day, we rest in our dreams of the future. "As seen through the eyes of adolescent children, Beachcombers is an enchanting story of responsibility and captures the impact humans have on our environment. Clementine and the young people teach us that we have the ability to change the world for the better--one piece of plastic, and one friendship, at a time." --Javier Rivera, GearUp advisor and educator Book #3 of the Clementine the Rescue Dog Series. I have to tell you I love Clementine the Rescue Dog's stories. I'm the mom of three rescue dogs and cannot think of a better way to get a dog.
I also love that the Clementine books have some hidden messages. This particular one deals with lessons about the oceans and the environment. We all want to keep oceans and the entire environment for the next generations so we need to pass on lessons for keeping them clean. Clementine and friends do this in a way that kids reading the book will not notice they are getting a lesson.
If you have an up and coming young environmentalist in your life, this book is a given. If you have a child that loves to learn, this book is a given. Not only will any child enjoy the story, the pictures are amazing.
I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.
I absolutely love that this entertaining and beautifully illustrated story focuses on the children preforming environmentally friendly activities like cleaning up the beach before they have a great time swimming and making sand castles!! Of course their dog Clementine is right there helping them as is the adult in their life.
After the beach they were driven to a food place and without asking--picked up the garbage there and placed it in the correct containers. What a relief that the owner thanked them with a surprise!!
Whether your child can already read or you read to them this is a book they will request time and time again--and you won't mind reading it and looking at the illustrations right along with them!
Clementine the Rescue Dog and her human family are back for another adventure, this time we are taken to the beach. I absolutely loved the illustration in this book as I have in the other books featuring Clementine. The adventure to the beach sees Tallis giving Coover and Conrad a sack and told them that before they can go swimming and make and castles they need to some cleaning up of the beach, I loved the message that this book is sending – that you can explore and also at the same time care for our environment. It teaches children and adults alike (as lets face it adults are most likely 99% of the time the culprit of the rubbish found on our beaches) that they can impact nature and make a positive difference in the world around them.
“Beachcombers: A Clementine the Rescue Dog Story” by Kyle Torke is the third book in a series of children’s books featuring a loveable adventurous mutt named Clementine. In this adventure, Clementine, Talis, Coover, and Conrad go to the beach for a day in the sun. The environmentally conscious family believes in work before play and begins to clean up the beach of trash and debris before hitting the waves. Clementine also joins in the cleanup by gathering plastic bottles. While cleaning they learn about the ocean creatures, the beach ecosystem, and recycling. After the cleanup, everyone enjoys spending time building sandcastles and having a picnic. Even Clementine is exhausted from such an event-filled day and crashes asleep in her owner’s arms. Upon arrival back on the farm Clementine and the children take the lessons they learned while on the beach and immediately set out to be good stewards of the land and improve the farm by planting tree seedlings.
Barbara Torke’s beautiful illustrations pair with everyday activities to teach younger generations to do something about the state of their surroundings by being givers rather than takers. This technique makes the story come to life in the minds of young children as they learn about different ecosystems, landmarks, and sustainability. The story is written from the family teacher’s perspective. The best lessons are always learned through experience. Torke uses creative dream sequences to bring a sense of ocean life into the story. Clementine is a constant in the story and a strong member of the family which also promotes rescue dogs making excellent pets. The simplicity of the story makes “Beachcombers” a storybook for parents to read to their small children to introduce them to the numerous teachable moments about the world around them. As a homeschooling family, I would use this series as an introductory guide for kindergarten-age children to 3rd-grade level to gain interest in the environment and our responsibility to keep our world healthy. I look forward to reading more of Clementine’s adventures in the near future.
This beautifully illustrated book was an absolute joy to read! It took me back to the time when my two boys were very young and we spent a lot of the time heading to the beach to explore, have fun, and of course swim.
The pictures show how much there is to look at, listen to, and explore. Trying to identify the birds, the wildlife, the plants that grow in that particular place, as well as the lovely places to eat and take in the whole surroundings. Also teaching them about how waste, litter, and leaving things behind impact on wildlife and the environment.
My favorite part of the story was when one of the characters started to dream and make up his own little place of escapism. This is true of myself when I get to the beach as I often become mesmerized by the tide movement helping me relax and chill out.
The story is one of adventure, exploration, and what a fun time can be had with a wide open space that is surrounded by amazing animals, plants, and of course the beach and sea which both hide a lot of secrets beneath their surfaces.
A book that can inspire parents, guardians, and children to go to the beach and coast to have their own adventures and explorations.
‘Beachcombers: A Clementine the Rescue Dog Adventures’ is a beautifully illustrated read for not only children to enjoy, but their parents. I have previously read a Clementine book, and this was a perfect addition to a growing series.
The book focuses on a trip to the beach, and sends a positive and friendly message on the importance of looking after the environment to really be able to enjoy it. (They have to clean up rubbish left polluting the beach)It’s done in a really light-hearted and fun way, and you get to enjoy the adventure, whilst learning in the process.
This is an entertaining read and perfect for early readers. It’s not too lengthy, and there is enough activities to keep interest. I would recommend to all young children, especially those who love animals and going on trips to the beach.
Beachcombers has a warm, nostalgic ambiance to it that brings me back to my childhood days. It exudes warmth and adventure as Taliss, Conrad, and Cooper join Clementine on a fun day at the beach. The story doesn’t exactly explain how Clementine is a rescue dog. Maybe that is clarified in a previous book of the series?
I love how the young children care for the environment by spending time gathering plastic bottles, discarded beach toys, and other littler from the shoreline before enjoying the sun and waves. The scene is set up nicely, showcasing marine life, birds, and beach vegetation through lively narration and lovely, evocative watercolor illustrations. The story expresses the exhaustion the children feel after a full, productive day outdoors, to a T.
This lovely children’s book provides a display of childlike wonder, the joy of exploration, and the importance of caring for our environment. It teaches young readers that they can impact nature and make a positive difference in the world around them.
