It was a most outrageous scheme--but necessary if Olivia Fenshawe was to save her brother's reputation. Cutting her hair and donning his clothes, she daringly assumed his post as secretary to the dashing Earl of Worth--but, of course, it could not last.Unmasked, and with her brother still missing, Olivia is compelled to give in to the infuriating Earl's demand that she exchange one masquerade for that of his betrothed. Truly, a situation that could only be described as a madcap scheme.
Karla Hocker, a native of Germany, was the author of fourteen Regency novels and various novellas. She attributed her love of the English language and her fascination with the Regency period to a three-year stay in England. Karla lived with her family - and far too many cats - in San Antonio, Texas. She passed away after a battle with cancer on May 28, 2004.
I'm usually a big fan of novels that include a woman going undercover. In this case, though I enjoyed myself, there weren't that many of the elements that I usually look for. I found the heroine a little bland and too willing to follow her 'fiancee's' lead. And usually I wouldn't think that a problem, but for the fact that any time that she thought of something for herself, she seemed to be putting herself in danger. It seemed as if the only good decision she made was the one to initially don pants and cut her hair.
None the less, if you're looking for a quick read, this novel is a good choice.
