A splendid book about industrialization. Case studies help to carefully conceptualize the phenomenon, at the same time specific information and bite-size discussions promote the dark sides of industrialization. As the title already says, it is an introduction, and even though the country case studies significantly help to learn about the history and development of industrialization across the globe, still, there is much to cover when it comes to the nexus between industrialization and development. Therefore, before jumping right into the books where one-country cases are being analyzed in terms of industrialization, this book's insights can be extremely useful. The author emphasized the former aspect several times, so the book does not have any biased or distorted structure from a scientific standpoint. This book is a good critical and systematic source to conceptualize industrialization. In my view, both economists and non-economists might benefit from Mr. Kiely's work.
