A Red Kite In a Pale Sky

Rate this book
Hanging onto the tree, Lawrence looked on in awe. Who would have believed that the quiet little Umhlatuzana could change from a small stream to this? Things were sweeping past him dipping, plunging, coming up, disappearing again. A dog struggling desperately, a fridge rolling along as if it was as light as a matchbox. A car. Bundles of rags. Were they bodies ? This gripping story tells of a 13-year-old boy who’s home was demolished in the terrible Natal floods of 1987. He survives to return to a devastated area and a ravaged family life . This book was awarded the 1990 Sanlam Gold Prize for Youth Literature.
