Crying Wind: My Searching Heart

Rate this book
FIRST TIME IN ONE VOLUME! Now for the first time, read her two best-selling books in one volume. Laugh with Crying Wind, cry with her. Feel her tension as she encounters problems and respond to her infectious enthusiasm for living and sharing God's love. In her first book, CRYING WIND, the author shares her troubled beginning as "the accidental offspring of two people who hated each other." "I never saw my father's face because he abandoned my mother before she was born, and she hated him for it." At 15, Crying Wind is forced to move to a large city after the death of her grandmother. Friendless and penniless, she attempts suicide. Paging through the Yellow Pages, she recognizes a church's address. The encouragement and love of the pastor and his wife help Crying Wind to accept herself and appreciate her own worth. In MY SEARCHING HEART, Crying Wind presents a word portrait of the modern Indian psyche. It is a powerful testimony of how God can span time and ancient cultures with His great love. Both these autobiographical novels are now available in one fascinating book.

Oh my lanta, this was amazing! Crying Wind's story has inspired me incredibly and made me feel so many different emotions. All I can say is, praise God for His wonderful love and how He reaches out and calls people to Him.

A sequel to Crying Wind...this book needs to be read directly following the first book...it's a continuation of a great story with the love of God as the foundation.

This book starts where Crying Wind left off in her previous book. She had just accepted Jesus as personal her saviour but life still held many challenges for her. She ends up marrying a complete stranger because she was tired of being lonely and was afraid that she would never never have another opportunity. Fortunately Don Stafford was a kind, sincere, Christian man who promised to take care of her. Marriage and life in Alaska was a huge adjustment for Crying Wind. Eventually she falls in love with her husband and they have four children together; three boys and a girl together. They also move around a lot before finally settling back in Colorado. It was beautiful to observe how Crying Wind grew in her Christian life. Her love for Jesus and her family shone through out this book.

A wonderful story about an indian girl leaving the reservation, facing life away from home, falling in love with a white man and learning his ways. The second book (My Searching Heart) follows the story with children and moving away from home.

I learned a lot about Indian culture as I read this book. It tells the story of Crying Wind's childhood, her discovery of Jesus and life with her husband Don. The first book is more serious and heartbreaking, but she includes numerous humorous stories in the second book.

Good view into the life of a Native American and the reality of a good God in their broken world.

I am an avid reader. I especially love reading books that are non-fiction. I rate all the books I read by number 1 to 5, or as "P" for Poor to "E" for Excellent. I rated this book as "EE" for Very Very Excellent. I think I have only rated one other book as EE. I LOVED reading this book and I could not put it down. I read all 492 pages in just a few days. It is one of the best books I have ever read.

I read this as research to get a look into what spirit worship was really like (rather than the glamorized view of the Native American religions). It did give this information, though the book didn't go very in-depth into the Native American religions as that wasn't really the focus of the book.

The book was well-written and gave a look inside what life can be like on a reservation, the pressures the Native Americans face, and a look at what life is like for a Native American who has converted to Christianity.

Great book. I learned a lot about the native-indian culture and how a young indian girl learned about herself and where she fit in as a new believer

I liked this book because she kept who she was and was proud of her heritage and yet still was able to find her way to God and that inspires me.

I knew Crying Wind personally, and her story gave me such hope that I was able to overcome many of my own tragedies through her beautiful example.
