For Evie St. Claire, life in Honeysuckle Springs isn’t anything like she’d imagined. Sure, the old house is charming, and the smalltown lakeside community is picture perfect. But her kitty roommate Birdie is unpredictable, snarky, and demanding.
When a ransom note shows up at Evie’s backdoor, she must come clean about her aunt’s stolen ashes. She’ll also need to decide if she’s willing to meet the ransom demands and give up her aunt’s spell book, or if she’ll search for the culprit herself. Before she can get a grip on that, Evie discovers a secret Birdie’s been hiding in the dusty upstairs attic, and things take a turn for the worse. She believes Birdie should handle the mess herself, but if police learn Birdie’s secret, they could both be in big trouble.
Join Evie and Birdie as they encounter cryptic ghosts, sneak around in mysterious woods, and secretly sleuth in a misty graveyard searching for answers. Haunted Cookies is the second book in the light-hearted and humorous Cookie Corner Cozy Mystery series. Oh goodness, this was so awesome! More answers and this time the case was a past murder. Evie and Birdie had to stay one step ahead of Caden or Evie worried he'd think she had something to do with the bones she found. I loved that she did get some answers about a past that Caden claimed they had but Evie had no recollection of. I'm hoping they can build a new friendship and relationship eventually. A ghost got some help needed from Evie, so basically it's all in a day's work for her, helping ghosts and trying to make sense of her past while solving a mystery. I'm super eager to read the next book!
Evie St. Claire has moved into her Aunt Birdie’s house in Honeysuckle Springs. Her aunt had been murdered and now occupies her cat familiar’s body. Birdie is not easy to live with… Evie found her trying to make breakfast for her. She had a pot of water on the stove and levitated a whole trout into it, eyes and everything. She was making fish soup from the trout she stole from someone because she was tired of eating canned food all the time. And now that Birdie had paws, she wanted Evie to gut the fish, which she flatly refused to do. She put the fish in the refrigerator until she could find someone to clean it for them, not allowing Birdie to eat it raw as she threatened. Her cat had so much attitude!
Evie told Birdie that she felt no magic at all in herself, but Birdie promised she would learn to tap into it. She felt a kind of tingling inside, so maybe Birdie was right. As they talked, a pink envelope dropped through the cat door. It was a ransom note that someone had her aunt's stolen ashes and they wanted Birdie’s spell book in exchange. Evie goes to the attic to look for the book but finds something unexpected instead.
Evie realizes she needs to find out about her past. She can’t remember things, such as Chief Caden Bexley and Evie knowing each other when she spent time with her aunt in her teenage years. Her parents had her memories hidden to make sure she didn’t know about her witch powers. She reacts to things but she can’t remember why. Birdie has secrets as well that could bring on trouble. Will the two of them join forces and try to find out what is going on now? Is Evie in danger?
This was a fun book, especially if you have ever owned a cat. Even a normal house cat can help you understand Evie’s situation. Grab your copy and see why someone is after the spell book. Will Evie get her memories back? Will she find that she and Caden were more than just childhood friends?
As we saw in the first of this series, Theodosia the cat, a familiar to Evie’s Aunt Birdie, now was the host to Birdie’s soul and could talk. We find out who stole Birdie’s ashes/urn from the car in front of the bakery, where Evie now works and Evie has started up decorating special cookies again. They are a hit. Chief Caden (hello hot cop) is one of the people addicted to those cookies. There are a couple other mysteries that are solved, including another death.
Evie finds out more of the relationship she had as a teen with Caden. But she doesn’t remember anything as those memories were magically wiped and Birdie won’t talk about it. Soooo unfair. If I was in Evie’s place I’d probably change some of Birdie’s food as punishment. The book is very funny and there is a lot more magic in this book. Birdie better start stalking fast since we still don’t know who killed her. I hope they don’t come for Evie…
I loved this book. I still think Evie should stow some catnip on Birdie when she wants the cat to stay inside. Lol.

For Evie, the day was pretty normal if you consider having breakfast with your aunt, who recently became one with her familiar shortly after said aunt passed, normal. Evie receives a note regarding her aunt's ashes that had been recently stolen and now she's being blackmailed. They want Evie's Aunt Birdie's spell book. But it's what they discover in the attic that brings Chief Caden Bexley into the picture. Caden remembers Evie from when they were younger. Evie has no recollection, but it's quickly beginning to seem as though Evie and Caden were more than just friends in their teenage years. Caden seems to want to rekindle what they had in the past, but Evie's a little gun shy and just wishes she could remember.
I'm so excited for the next book in this series! I need to know what happens between Evie and Caden! Cute, flirty story mixed with a little mystery and magic. I loved every chapter!!! FANTASTIC READ!!!
Evie is enjoying her new beginning and working at the bakery. She is surprised by a ransom note for over her aunt's ashes. Evie decides to go looking for her aunts book. She is surprised by what she finds instead. Evie is also slowly realizing that she needs to find out about the past she doesn't remember. She is hesitant to ask about it. Evie is on a mission to find out not just who has the her aunt's ashes, but other pertinent information.
This book has some interesting twists to the story. You will get to a bit more of the backstory to Evie and her past, and her struggles now. You will get drawn into this story as the characters, the world and the story will keep you reading. I can't wait for the next book. There are so many questions that I can't wait to get the answers to.

Evie is still flustered that police chief Caden seems to recall a certain summer she spent with her aunt in town, and he hints that they might have known each other more than casually
the thief of the cremains is making an effort at blackmail. what powers or spells are they really after and why?
Evie seems to have stumbled over a few things : bones in the attic, a new found ability to hear ghosts, a naughty spirit
can she find a way to put the spirit at rest? will pieces of her memory continue to be lost? can new memories be added onto fond inklings instead?
bittersweet romance and whodunnit mysteries.

I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book.
Evie and Caden had a thing when they were younger but she can’t remember because her parents had those memories hidden so she wouldn’t remember about her powers. But she inherited her aunt’s house because her aunt had been murdered and lives in her cat. Evie feels the pull to different things or places but doesn’t understand because of no memories. Have hopes for them and good book!.

I was so excited for this second book in this series! Such high expectations can lead to a let-down, but in this case, my high expectations were fully met! I loved the writing style, as always, typical Stark-style. Fun, lighthearted, well-written and entertaining. And very more-ish! Twists and turns made sure that I stayed firmly at the edge of my seat. But now I want more. I want answers. I want the next book!
Ok, who the heck left bones in Birdie’s attic? Was it a murder? Was someone trying to do something to make Birdie look bad? And what will Evie do now? This is such a fun series! I loved finding out how took Birdie’s ashes and what she and Evie did to get the person back. It was so good!
I absolutely enjoyed this read. Evie has just started her job at the Cookie Corner with Valerie when strange things start happening. She receives a ransom demand via a letter through the kitty door of the house for the return of her Aunt Birdie's ashes and she stumbles across a skeleton in the attic. It's an amusing and delightful read.
Fabulously witty and whimsical story, absolutely love the dramatics of Birdie/Theo and her antics. Evie is settling into her new life despite the odd issues cropping up to test her, she also gets a few bits of memory come to the surface which is both good and frustrating. Caden is lovely and patiently understanding and good at accepting insight into his cases. Wonderful characters and story.
Characters are cute, the town is cute. I enjoy reading these. Looking forward to finding out more about Aunt Birdie and the rest in the next book. The mysteries are interesting and well paced.
This book was shear delight. I love the cute characters. The plot was awesome. I can't get enough of this series. I can't wait to get my hands on the next one.

It’s nice to have a cozy mystery to curl up with on a chilly “sprinter” day. Evie and her “grandmother” are very entertaining and realistic in their day to day communications. I’m enjoying this series. This was book 2. I’m moving on to book 3.
I enjoyed this book, it has an entertaining storyline and the interaction between the characters is amazing. I can't wait to read more from this author. I received this book as a Free copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
Actually both books just needed to know that the second was as good as the first. It was great settings and believable characters. A good way to get lost for a few hours.
Good cute story. I enjoy a bit of a mystery and I got one. I really liked these characters and the plot of this story. Looking forward to reading the next installment of this series.
A different kinda of mystery made for a nice change of pace. Also a possible answer to the scar was funny. Again it was well written and the characters where good.
