A lyrical, beautifully illustrated poem about a baby’s birth.
In this lyrical poem, author John Sobol brings us his imagined vision of a universal experience, that of being born. As she is born, the baby in this story goes through a time of intense movement and change before she takes her first breath and cries. Warm hands wrap her in a blanket, and she is held in loving arms. She has arrived!
Sobol captures the mystery and wonder of the birth experience in this deeply sympathetic tale. Reading this book together will enable children and their parents to celebrate the joy and emotional power of that remarkable moment.
Cindy Derby’s soft, gentle illustrations beautifully complement the poem.

What a beautiful, lyrical picture of unborn life and birth. Perfect for gifting to an expecting mother or to share with little ones awaiting a new sibling.
A great book for a child expecting a little sibling, or for a kid who is curious about pregnancy/birth/babies. Does not go into "where babies come from," but instead focuses on what a fetus might experience in the lead-up to being born. In case that raises a red flag for you, this is definitely a fully formed, baby-shaped fetus, so it's not a pro-life endeavour to get kids to empathize with a bunch of fertilized cells or anything. A nice calming read, but it could keep the curious ones up a little longer asking questions.
Beautiful lyrical verse with beautiful water color paintings. This is such a unique and tasteful way to show what it’s like for a baby to enter this world.
