“Most Eligible Bachelor” Dr. Mark Stanton can’t escape all the women pursuing him for the wrong reasons. So when the only woman in the city who doesn’t know who he is shows up at his doorstep, he can’t help but want to know her better. Unfortunately, she doesn’t want to know him at all after their time together and he has no idea why. When Jennifer Cleary discovers she is pregnant by Mark after their one night together, she is immediately faced with the guilt of her actions...and decides not to tell him. When he shows up at her diner during the most complicated part of her pregnancy, she comes face to face with a man who promises to take care of her...no matter what. But will this strong-willed woman have to let go of her independence in order to find love?
Mary Duncanson, who also writes as Mary Malcolm, lives in North Texas with a menagerie of animals and feral roommates. She is currently looking to adopt a husband, preferably housebroken, preferably as silly as her. When she's not corraling her household, she's talking to the characters in her head and hoping they talk back. When she's not doing all that, she can be found wandering around Central Market with a happy, drooly foodie look on her face. Do not judge her, it is her Mecca.
Mary's been writing since she was a teenager though spent quite a few years studying toward becoming a doctor before she realized she wanted to be a full-time author. Unfortunately, the people who own her student loans still want to be paid for the years they supported her medical dreams. Mary lives on a steady diet of coffee and chocolate and believes, like Eleanor Roosevelt, that people should believe in the beauty of their dreams. She also believes people should ignore the word should because really, it's kind of a judgmental word. Mary dreams of one day living as a full-time, well paid novelist (hint, hint) and also of one day traveling to Chile to pay homage to her soul mate, Pablo Neruda.
I loved the idea of this book, I loved the cover image, loved the summary and loved the title! The book itself... not so much. The first, say, 25% was interesting, how Mark and Jennifer met and first interacted, how they noticed each other and fell into each other's arms, that was great. That part was a fun read. Everything after that? Oh. My. God. Can I say, 'get on with it', any louder and any more frequently than I did today?
This book started off great but turned into an amateur pile of teeny bopper fan fiction before anyone could say, 'ham'. Or even, Mary Sue! Sheesh. It was a quick read, so I finished it in spite of my feelings.
I really wanted to get into some more romantic fiction, but if this is what it is all like, I'm not so sure anymore. I was hoping for fluff, smutt... smuff! But what I got was annoying internal dialog and a couple that was too unobservant to notice each other. And if they had said, "I don't remember what my life was like before you!" one. more. time, I would have lost it. Do fictional characters have that awful of a memory to not remember a time a single year prior?
I don't usually pick up romance novels, but this one was selected for book club, and I figured I should give it a fair shot. However, the two main characters were so infuriatingly infantile about everything, refusing to talk with each other throughout the entire novel to see whether the other was feeling the same. Eek. And then, within a matter of pages, everything was all worked out and 'The End'. I think reading this book stressed me out for them, and I hate being stressed out.
Not worth the €6... i didn't enjoy the story, the main caracters. I did enjoy sophie though. The writing for me didin't work... i loved the sinopse, and it had everything to be a great book, but for me it wasn't.. sorry.
I'm gonna give this book the okay even though one of my thoughts when reading it was "This shit is stupid." They were annoying uncommunicative characters.
There is this part after Jennifer has moved out where we find out from Mark that Jennifer thinks the baby has been sleeping through the night, not knowing that Mark has been getting up with the baby. So he's like can't wait to see how her first night alone goes. That gave me quite the chuckle.
This is a cute read and I loved the premise. The characters seemed real and I was able to feel their story. My big complaint was that everyone, and I believe ends even herself in one scene, kept telling Jennifer to talk to Mark about her feelings and she just won't do it. This seemed to drag a little more then I would of like.
I really loved this story and would recommend it to others
I loved the idea for this novel but the follow through just wasn't there. I felt very little emotional link to this novel. The hero wasn't all that bright and the heroine decided to be pig headed and shy instead of confronting what she wanted and how she loved the hero. The rest of the 'filler' wasn't all that great either in my opinion. The novel was just very lacking.
I forgotten I had read this one till I saw it in one of the folders of books that I have read. I really enjoyed the book especially not knowing where the one you love rates on the social scale and shows all things are possible.
I thought this book was pretty good. They both did not tell each other how they felt. He finds out she's pregnant, and wants to be there for her. She has feelings for him, but doesn't think he does for her.
I liked this one. It had a good story but was filled with misunderstandings that could have been fixed with just some conversation, but still a cute story.
