I discovered the Guardian's wine critic Hannah Crosbie after she appeared on a YouTube video as an expert, tasting different beverages - one of which turned out to be prison wine. I was interested by her reaction and her reputation as a young (Scottish) wine upstart... so picked this up and read it over the course of an hour or so. Less a 'book' than a collection of recommendations for different types of wine that may be suitable for specific scenarios, this is a light-hearted and accessible introduction and guide to various common wines that folks like myself may blithely order without understanding a single thing about. One that I will probably come back to reference in the future...

As a self confessed and heavily misunderstood wine nerd amongst my peers, this book gives the level playing field with humour and openness that’s been missing for novices. I always thought food-wine pairing was the gateway, but Corker hits the nail on the head with pairing the most universal events needing a bottle of lovely.

Gobbled up in less than 24 hours, and it’s going to be recommended far and wide!

I had a hard time giving this rating. There is a glossary section in this book that is profound in it’s simplicity but the rest of the book meanders through pairing options with life events. I think I would have just hoped for more.

Enjoyable. I don't know which wine to recommend to accompany the reading of this nice book.
My local supermarket sells a cheeky red for £3.45. It's called Skid Row. I believe it's from North Korea.
I drink it straight from the fridge. Goes great with pork scratchings...
