About the author

Mehta was born in Mahuva near Bhavnagar, Gujarat on 25 May 1928. He completed his school education from M. N. Highschool in Mahuva.

He studied till inter Arts. He married on 10 February 1953 in Matunga, Mumbai.He served as an editor of Gujarati weekly, Chitralekha, from 1958 to 1998.

He died on 3 April 1998 in Mumbai following heart attack

૨૭મી નવેમ્બર ૧૯૭૩થી કોમામાં રહેલા અરૂણાની મૂગી ચીસ કોઈના કાને અથડાઈ નહીં.
કાનોએ નહીં સાંભળેલી ચીસ કલમે સાંભળી અને રચાઈ એક દર્દભરી કથા નામે "જડ ચેતન"..."જડ ચેતન" અસ્સલમાં "તુલસી-ચિંતન" તરીકે લખાઈ હતી.

હરકિશન મહેતાની કલમ હોય એટલે પાને પાને ટ્વિસ્ટ અને ટર્નસ આવવાના જ, કયારેક રુવાડાં ઉભા થઈ જાય તો કયારેક આંખમાં આંસુ આવી જાય તેમ છતાં વાર્તા ના પાત્રોમાં એકધારાપણું આવી જાય છે એ થોડું ખટકે છે. ૧૯૯૨-૯૩ મા લખાયેલી સ્ટોરીલાઈન વારે ઘડીએ આઉટડેટેડ હોવાનું યાદ અપાવ્યા કરે છે અને અત્યંત શ્રીમંત ઉદ્યોગપતિ એકતા કપૂરની સિરિયલોની બૈરાંઓની જેમ આખો દિવસ કોઇને ઉતારી પાડવાના કે ફસાવી મારવાના પ્લાન બનાવવા સિવાય કોઇ મહત્વનુ કામ કરતો ન હોય એ ગળા નીચે ઉતરતું નથી
