Sickness gnaws at the land and at the tribe. The river runs black with corruption. Black Rindle, child of a forbidden union, has befriended a woman -- a human who can see him for what he is. Who, unlike his own kind, accepts his deformity. Definitely a side track from the first two books. Also, the slowest build up of the whole series and I almost put it down for good a couple of times. The best part is in the last 20 pages or so. Really leads into book four, though.
