Tom Finney: My Autobiography

Rate this book
Tom Finney personifies a vanished golden era of football, playing his entire career under the maximum wage and never wavering in his loyalty to Preston North End. A true gentleman of the game, who is still justifiably idolised more than 40 years since he retired from football, Finney recalls the highs and lows of his marvellous career with a warmth and affection that will appeal to all who read his story. But Finney's life has been about much more than football, and he writes movingly about his current role as full-time carer to his beloved wife, Elsie.

There were interesting bits, but ultimately he was too good and straight up of a person to make an interesting story about his life.

Tom may have been a great player but even so he comes across as a bit too full of himself here x

if you have ever yearned for a time when the beautiful game was a simple artistic affair
unsullied by astronomic wages and admission fees. If you ever wanted to hear about loyalty
and dedication and it come from the heart and soul of a true gentleman. Someone who had the touch
and finesse of a ballet dancer and the clinical finishing prowess of an assassin yet could
talk to the man and boy in the street in the same down-to-earth humble demeanour as he could converse
with royalty.

If you have ever loved football then please read about Tom Finney the man, the footballer, the legend.
