The third edition of this book is an incredible resource for tree climbers. The illustrations of how to tie knots and hitches are the best I have seen. Really great, concise compilation of this information. I only wish I had read this one sooner in my tree climbing journey.

Pretty good, easy to follow drawings and educational. Explains things well without using too much jargon. Had to read for my club “HortPack”.

The Tree Climber's Companion: A Reference And Training Manual For Professional Tree Climbers
Jeff Jepson

This is the second edition of this work, printed in June 2017.

This book is a very good introduction to the gear and techniques used by arborists or by recreational tree climbers.

The following topics are addressed:
- Gearing up
- Pre-climb inspection
- Rope installation
- Entering the tree
- Positioning within the tree
- Commonly used knots

The author also has another book, Knots at Work, which goes into a lot more detail on how to tie and when to use each type of knot. In my opinion, a beginning climber should start with The Tree Climber's Companion and, after mastering that information, then move on the Knots at Work.

This book would also be very helpful if one were to spend a moderate (cough, cough) amount of time watching Youtube arborist videos.
