Ashley Sievwright lives, works and writes in Melbourne. His first novel, The Shallow End , was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers' Prize Best First Book in 2009.

I loved this book. I loved the acerbic commentary of the narrator and their depiction and development of Walter. I loved the uncertainty about what was really going on. I loved the magic realism aspects of the story. The ending lands perfectly. Absolutely brilliant unique book - it is a shame it hasn't garnered the readership that it deserves. Very highly recommended!

Loved the unfolding mysteries, the blend of the ordinary and the weird, the story that twisted in various directions I didn’t expect, yet everything fit together and felt “inevitable” - despite being unexpected - at the end. Wonderful.
