The Intersection by Catherine Grace
🌟🌟🌟🌟/5

In the space of a moment, Em's life and future was unexpectedly and cruelly ripped away from her. She has spent the last 3 years, agoraphobic but safe in her Glasgow cocoon, with the people of her intersection for company. Who would have thought after 3 years of hiding from the world the world would invite itself into her corner of the world. And what if some of what you thought you knew of those 3 years, weren't true at all?

The cast of this page turning, twisting and turning read are all great friends to Em but not everyone are as they seem. After all everyone has secrets and ghosts...

I really enjoyed this read, it kept me guessing, sometimes wrongly, but that's the thrill of a good mystery. The deeper subjects of loss, agoraphobia and the metaphor for eveyones life having those pivotal intersections; of accepting our past but not ignoring the glorious future to be had, we're carefully intertwined which I really enjoyed.

My only bugbear...how did they all eat so decadently and still be so gorgeous :)

This is my first read from Catherine and would highly recommend this explosive read! I'm looking forward to more.

The book being set in Glasgow made me really want to read it, I know there are other books with similar storyline's but I was still intrigued.
I liked the mystery surrounding the story, there was obviously something bigger at play but I had no idea of what that could be.
It held my interest all the way until the end. I have to say I was disappointed in how things ended for the villain. Though I must say never finding out her name at all does make her seem all the more villainous.
I hope that this was an unedited copy I had for review as there were a few basic spelling and grammatical errors such as missing speech marks.
Paragraphs often changed perspective also and with no warning it got confusing to realise we had changed characters.
Overall it wasn't a bad read and I think there's definitely an audience for it.

I love Scottish crime so I was really looking forward to reading this but, to be honest, it could have been set anywhere.

Em has not left her home for three years. She moved to Glasgow, from America, following the death of her husband & fills her days staring out of the window & making up stories about the people crossing the intersection below. She thinks she sees her husband crossing the road; she finds herself stalked by an anonymous woman; explosions are happening. How? Why?
The book is about Em’s search for the truth about her husband’s death & to discover why someone wants her dead.
This was a very easy read but having invested in the story, & wanting to know why what happened happened, I was disappointed by the conclusion which seemed rushed.
That being said, it was a good mystery & had some light-hearted moments.

OOH this is suitably creepy and gets more and more mysterious as it progresses. Dark, enticing and I just wanted to race to the end. Ended up trusting no-one as they all seemed so suspicious.
Love how this sprung into action and kept the pace til the finale.
The ending fell a teeny bit flat for me, no spoilers here though.

For full transparency I've been gifted this book in return for an honest review.

This genre is not at all my forte, however I enjoyed the storytelling, voice and arc. It may just get me reading more in this vein!

Entering into Emily's world is intriguing, her frustration is palpable but so is the comfort in her routine. The standard of tea, biscuits and the intersection, for her, is like watching a well loved soap or drama. Her fear and stalled life is sad but as we learn of her past we begin to understand and perhaps grow frustrated at her stagnation.

What makes the story so wonderful are the cast of characters surrounding Emily. Her friends rally around, care, cajole and pester her. They are wonderful and bring the outside world in-for both Emily and the reader.

The catalyst that spurs to the story forward gives just enough mystery to keep the reader turning the page and wanting to learn more. Just when you think you've got it, the story twists in ways you can't figure out. The antagonist is wily and conniving that I almost admire them for their tenacity!

It's a quick easy read that keeps you guessing but also ensures you fall more and more in love with the characters as you learn more about them.

The only critique is the book is rather short. I'd love to have lived with these characters longer. The details we do get are done well and the storytelling was economical but full. I'd love to have seen scenes extended or broadened further, though perhaps I'm a little greedy. 😉

4/5 stars- well worth a read if you love mystery and stories based around the human condition.
