It’s charming and positive and in my memory the illustrations are delightfully odd-ish. It was on a bookshelf right at bedside height for years, so I let my nostalgia choose the rating. One of the much-thumbed books that shaped me 😊
A How-To story that I have never heard until now....
The Happy Dromedary explains how all the animals were made and then sent by the Animal King to choose their own homes out of the whole wide world. Some examples are given of animals and their choices such as the wolf in the forest, the tiger in the jungle, etc. but it is only Dromedary who chose the desert for its beauty. Yet unfortunately in her original form she was also quite unsuitable for her desert life.
This story is a beautiful story of thinking wisely about where you make your home, of accepting your whole self including your own unique gifts and also of seeing others not according to their physical appearance but to their gifts in life.
Glen Rounds' characters are interesting creatures at best with his normal limited color palette and scrawny details for some of the plants although the animals are much chunkier than what I have seen of his normal characters.
All in all this was a very brief story but one that makes for a nice read to pass the time away if you if you need a mild escape from life's realities.
I had the opportunity to visit with a friend and check out a few boxes of children's books she had kept from her childhood and her son's. The books are quite old and many are out of print, so it was a wonderful chance to revisit with some stories I read when I was young and to discover others I'd never seen before.
Cute children's tale about the origins of the camel.
Another Little Free Library find from a local library sale. This will actually be the second copy of this book in the LFL, as someone in the neighborhood also added one recently. Great minds, I suppose.
