My name is Spare. Yes, as in the term Spare Tire. I was the second-born twin to a mother who only wanted one child. Their neglect and cruelty have made me a Ghost in our world of Shifters. I have the plan to escape all this and make a life of my own. Just have to work a few more shifts so I have enough money to make my way to go to college. I don’t think they are going to be incredibly happy when they find that I have left; I will make my escape even if it kills me to do so. I know way too much about the things that are going on behind closed doors in the Rising Moon pack. I don’t really have physical proof, but what I know could get me killed or worse turned over to the Alpha Michael, my Uncle. In his secret world, I will never be seen again, and no female ever returns from his grasp unless you count the ones they find in the river. You know what they say, though, make plans, and God laughs. My last shift and what I find in the last room of the night will change my plans and my life forever. Many things await me on my journey of healing, heated passion, laughter, secrets, and an Evil that will threaten the very existence of the shifter worlds and even a possible Big Foot sighting.
This book definitely needed the help of an editor. It wasn't horrible at all, in fact the storyline was actually good. But all the grammar and spelling issues kept pulling me out of the story. Perhaps with more experience, the author can rewrite this book, but it does deserve some love.
I normally don't do written reviews; I usually just give a star rating. But this book is SPECIAL! I started reading this book long ago on a pay per chapter (PPC) site. At some point, I just stopped reading the book because it was too expensive on that site to continue reading. Recently, I watched an ad on a game I played, and it was featuring this story. After reading the synopsis, I realized I had read some of it before and went looking for it elsewhere. I found it on Amazon and so glad I did!
For beginning on a PPC site, this book would be considered phenomenal anyway because grammar and spelling and sentace structure are usually really lacking. This book, even though it is very long, has almost no mistakes I caught while reading. I found a few sentence structure mistakes toward the end, but considering PPC books are usually between 25%-60% mistakes, this book is excellent in that regard with maybe 5%, if that. The story and characters keep you enthralled and entertained. You really feel for some of the characters and absolutely despise others. The story makes you want to keep up with the characters, like thinking, "I wonder how they dealt with that?" or "How are they handling that challenge?" The author does an excellent job drawing you into the story. I really hope the next book or 2 in this series answers a few of the questions that were left open, and we get to hear from these characters again.
The story developed well in some areas, skipped over things in others. It felt very juvenile in writing in many places. So much promise to the story, but tried to get too many pieces in too quickly that it left too much development out.
This is a poorly edited book that read reads like it was written in another language and translated to English by a kid in their first year of English as a second language class. I’m guessing it was self published and not edited at all. Typos. Grammatical errors. Extra words in sentences. Mixing of tenses from past to present all jumbled together. Goes from first person narration to second or third. It’s just a mess. If these types of errors bother you, this is not the book for you. If you don’t mind errors, the storyline is decent and easy to follow. I found the ending distastefully written. The synopsis was good to let you know what happens to the characters but was just poorly written. It was like reading a fairytale “happily ever after” ending after reading this story about human trafficking. They just didn’t go together. The author could of written more in the series about those characters too, but I certainly won’t be reading the other books she has written.
So much potential for the story. The writer lacks the experience to create depth in the story and characters. I hope someday she rewrites this story. Just the one book could have been turned into two or three with some depth to the story. I wish the writer the best, but the potential of the story isn’t enough to make me read more from her.
This book was very hard to get through. They switched characters without warning, the sentences feel incomplete. The author just needs help all around. It has an ability to be good if the writing is better.
I was hesitant to purchase this book due to it being part of a trilogy where not all the books are published yet (as far as I can tell) despite this book having been published a while ago but I was pleasantly surprised to find that, while this book DOES make me want to continue reading more of the trilogy, it’s not due to the initial book ending on a cliffhanger! Instead, you grow to care about more than just the male and female leads of this book and now you want to read more just to see who else is going to find their true mates and what kind of tribulations they’ll have to confront along the way. If I have any criticism about this book, it would be that there are a couple things missed in editing where they meant to refer to Marnie’s mate but accidentally used his brother’s (the Alpha, Asher) name instead. Also, I noticed (in at least one review) people complained that the author brought up a Bigfoot in this book and that it “didn’t go anywhere” and they thought it was pointless and/or ruined the flow of the story…in my opinion, he’s probably slated to make an appearance in a future book because I don’t see this author making any other kind of unintended decisions about the characters. I do wonder, however, if the author regrets making the epilogue SO complete? Or if I even CAN consider it truly complete considering the fact that, while it said that some of the characters found their mates, it didn’t divulge who they were/how they were found so I guess the author could use that as part of the future storyline or even as side stories if they wanted. Anyway, I was obviously pleasantly surprised by how complete the book was but I will give the same warning that I read in the reviews prior to my purchase…do not buy this if you are not okay with violence or sexual situations or abuse. This book has people and shifters who have suffered from abuse as well as those that perpetuate it both physically and mentally as well as those who punish it so, if you might get triggered by these things, I suggest you skip this book. There is also a fair amount of graphic consensual sex scenes (particularly later in the book) as well as mentions of rape…although scenes were not at all written, some people are triggered by simply seeing the word, I believe all the rapists got what they deserved but, again, that may trigger some people so I’m just putting the warning out for those people. I, clearly, wasn’t overwhelmed by anything that was written in the book and enjoyed it!
If you can get past the typos, its a Great book !!!! Loved it ❤❤❤
Ok.... Found this book on Facebook, and, to my delight , found it on Amazon. So, this book was a Very great story. I was enchanted. Poor Spare, yes that is her name, is the 2nd daughter of twins. Her twin Lily , is given everything. Spare is little thought about. Not included in Anything. No holidays, nor parties. Not even dinner. Spare stays in the attic, and even has to use the back door. How can parents treat their child like that ??? As the story opens, Spare is at her job that no one knows about. She is a housekeeper at a hotel . On one of her last rooms to clean for the night, she knocks, and enters a room she thought was empty. It was not . A man lay bleeding on the floor of the main room. Duncan has been attacked and left. Soon after awakening, he realizes that this housekeeper is his mate !!! And that is the beginning of Spare's new journey.
Now , I need to talk about this book. If you're like me , typos drive me Nuts !!!! Knowing where and why to use punctuation is Key to a great book !!! This book seems to be written by different people !!! The 1st part , right up to almost the last few chapters, are fraught with typos !!! All kinds !!!! Made my head spin like Linda Blair !!! But the story....... This story was magnificent. Even with all those typos and things. Reading about Spare , and her journey , as well as Lily's part was a sometimes bumpy ride, that had me anxious to get to the next chapter !!! Towards the end of the book, it was a breeze, with just a few mistakes here and there. Like there was a proofreader , or something. I would definitely read more from this author !!! I really did enjoy this book, and looking forward to reading the next in thus series.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED, LOVED, LOVED THIS BOOK! I was consumed from the very first page. This book is like a rollercoaster ride you never want to get off of. I felt such a plethora of emotions and I loved every minute of it. It's both heartbreaking and heartwarming and the excitement and action had me jittery inside. I couldn't read fast enough. Spare/Adira is such an amazing character I loved her instantly and for her to go through so much pain and abuse but still be such a sweet , kind and caring woman it was both heart wrenching yet also heartwarming. Some characters you love to hate and others you can't get enough of. The suspense was at times so intense my heart was pounding. Duncan's character is every woman's dream. He is just so kind, caring and sexy, what's not to love. You can almost feel their emotions coming off the pages. There are some surprising revelations that had me thinking WOW! HOLY MOLY! At times there are some really dark moments that will make you cry and could be triggers for some people. I loved how the different species came together for a common cause and the King's character was amazing, so strong yet vulnerable and what he has to do to his son would give anybody nightmares, I cried, my heart was breaking for him. I have to say that getting towards the end of the book there a quite a few editing errors that made me alittle confused. The ending was perfect. I loved getting to find out how things turned out for the other characters. This book was also very sexy and fun. I can't say enough about it. I paid $9.99 for this book but it was well worth it, the book is long one but so so good. I'm so excited to get on to the next book. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO EVERYONE.
1.5 stars. Given it 2 to be nice. This story is so very badly written. The story itself is ok, not particularly spicy and full of twists and turns, but it very much feels like it's written by a 13 year old and the weird italics and absolutely random quotation marks are truly baffling. You can't tell if someone is speaking, then if they are, whom they're addressing, nor if it's physical or mental speech. It's just so odd and very jarring. I did read to the end of the book although I ended up skimming a good bit at the end because I was just so bored of it and the whole "and they lived happy ever after" bit was lame tbh. I am honestly gutted that I paid more for this than I do for most physical books and would have raged had I had to fork out whatever it would have cost on one of those awful book apps. ABSOLUTELY will NOT be reading the next one.
I found an online version of this book for free however it was very unedited and hard to read through sometimes with same paragraphs rewritten and out of place until it finally continues on also multiple PoVs in same chapter and sometimes switching off in the middle of a scene to a random PoV and eventually back again, which while I understand wanting to get everyone part of the wider story and world building or all character building told which can be nice if written well enough I enjoyed most the characters but finish a scene before switching to another PoV. As said the online version was unedited maybe the kindle version was better but idk over all not a bad story maybe I just read the wrong version of it.
I haven't read much fiction lately so I was pleasantly surprised when I came across this on Facebook. The short tease pulled me in. I absolutely hate what the bad guys were doing. A special place in hell is reserved for people like them. So, I was very interested in seeing what happened. The characters are interesting, the story doesn't lag and is beautifully detailed. Two short comings, at least for me, grammatical issues and I really don't need all the sex details. Skipping those scenes just allowed me to get to the rest of the story more quickly. (Yes, I am a prude, lol.) An enjoyable read.
It's poorly editted warewolf hentai. Lots of descriptions of physical and sexual abuse against women and children as young as toddlers under the thinly veiled guise of saving them. Even the relationships that are suppose to be healthy in the book have teens in relationships with much older males who refer to them as their "little ones." It's just all around creepy. On top of that, lots of spelling errors, general editing typos, and lack of general logic. I ended up skimming through huge chunks and then just quit reading altogether. This one is not salvageable.
I was sucked by a fb ad that let's you read teasers. Then it took me to a 'free' ap to read it. I dislike commercials and offers of a high-priced membership, so I looked it up on amazon . Apparently, there are many books with the same title. I found it, though. What surprised me was how easy it was to visualize. Good books play out like a movie in my head as I read. I was surprised how enraptured I became with the storyline line. I liked the wholesomeness of the main characters. There are some horrific situations in the story, be warned. But it was an adventure, though.
10 Wows ~ This is the highest rating I have given a book because this creation involves all of your emotions and many real life truths.
Important: This is NOT for the weak of heart. God bless Lori for writing this story and sharing it. I have never been so deeply moved to my very soul. I actually felt the pain of many of the characters. I was like one of them in real life. This is a must read novel for those that are so sensitive til it hurts. The Happily Ever After story ending is heart warming and a relief I the end. Bravo Bravo
As an avid reader I read an excerpt and was hooked, couldn’t find it in Kindle unlimited so I purchased the ebook. I enjoyed it, and read it quickly, the only reason I gave it 4 stars is that through the whole book, it was sometimes difficult to determine who was talking and to whom in a conversation. The italics and bold characters were not consistent to determine the type of communication, and it was in desperate need of a proofreader. Again, I enjoyed the story and will likely continue the series, just hope the next one is even better !
The Spare had a great plot. It did cover a lot of violence towards people that you should be aware of. This includes sexual assault, emotional and physical abuse, and testing on people and animals. It also includes the survivors starting the healing process. That being said, it was a little long and the editing was atrocious. Trying to read through all of the editing mistakes was tough. I had to go back a couple times to figure out what was being said and by who.
This book was amazing. The characters were realistic and the character development throughout the story was fantastic. Abuse, mental, physical, and emotional are a central theme in this story as well as the aftermath and growth that can come from the right support after suffering abuse. I loved this story but please read with caution if you have triggers about abuse or are not mentally able to deal with stories about abuse.
Little story began with an abused daughter that only developed more and more as it went along until fate stepped and turned the tide. Shifter stories are different to start with but this got odd with different species mating etc, plus the story line of royalty and the rich was very grandiose and it left me wondering where did Duncan get his money from and how did he make it in the first place. Overall I enjoyed the read.
Wow, what a great story. It is full of drama, laughter, love and tears. Lots of tears. So in depth. It tells a fascinating, terrifying tale of what happens in real life with child trafficking, with shifters thrown in. There are so many triggers, so if you have experienced similar, please skip it. It does bring you many HEAs and tells of some side characters that need and get their stories. The copy that I read was a work in progress, so I had to keep the grammatical errors and name mistakes in mind. This story will blow you away Well done, Ms. Ameling.
Ok. I found this originally as one of those weird pay to read advertisements on FB. I find that those are poorly written with terrible grammer and spelling. I was pleasantly surprised that 1. I was able to also find it on Amazon. 2. The writing was pretty good. 3. The story was original and I find myself hoping she will write another book in the same storyline. Thank you for a good read.
Read this in a reading app and was surprised how it pulled me in. It definitely needs some editing, but the story line and twists and turns were well executed. I really enjoyed it. I was impressed with the different species working together to take down the bad guys. There were a couple times that I thought the book would end, but there was another twist in the next chapter. While I didn't care for the app, the story was captivating.
Although, there are a few grammatical errors, it does not take away from the readability of this well written book. I think the over all message of compassion an kindness is at an all time high in these unknown times we face in real life. Lori Ameling a message to you- I really enjoyed reading the product of your imagination that also included your understanding of compassion, kindness an all around goodness with a slight kinky twist. I look forward to further reads!!!
The beginning story line is what brought me in but it was hard to get through. There were so many spelling, grammar and typing errors it was a rough read. Towards the end I felt like it was never going to end. It is definitely too long. It seemed as though the author was just adding more conflict just to make it longer. I will not reread this author. I think the storyline would make a good story but the execution was lacking.
3 1/2 ☆ I agree with most of the other reviews. This author needs an editor- badly!!! I would give this book 4 ☆ for the story but the way she shifted between tenses (even in the same sentence) drove me crazy. I felt the epilogue was a little much, as was the way she just kept adding crazy characters to torture the "good" characters in the book. I did think it was a good story, but it could have been better with some editing.
I found this book on one of the pay sites but decided to look on Amazon and there is was!! The story had lots of ups and downs but love heals!! I like that she was able to include various couples simultaneously but didn't short change any of them. She still has enough for another book on one of my favorite characters. I will be searching for that one next!! I highly recommend!!!!
This was tough for me to finish. There are a lot of grammar and punctuation errors. There are many programs available that fix these errors and it just isn’t something I can let slide when I paid for this book.
The storyline was okay. There was a lot of jumping around. Some stuff could have been left out of this book and put into another book of the series. I don’t know if there are other books in this series, but I won’t even be looking for them.
Lori Ameling did a good job capturing the interest of the reader with her story. It moves very quickly, with a fairly good plot. Characters are likable. This is no novel…nothing in-depth and you can often guess what might happen in the different scenarios. But hey, this is her first book and I read it from beginning to end, looking forward to picking it up again after interruptions. My only true complaint…the editing. I’ll read the next book.
