Like the protagonist in the Dale Hunter series of business crime thrillers, Del Chatterson is an entrepreneur who ran a computer products distribution business in Montreal in the 1980’s. Like Dale Hunter, he grew that business quickly - from zero to $20 million-a-year in just eight years.
Some of the stories in his novels actually happened, most are fiction. “These were my worst nightmares,” he says. “I decided to share them through these imagined stories of an ordinary businessman fighting crime and corruption to save himself, his family, and his business from death and disaster."
In the internationally acclaimed Dale Hunter Thriller Series, Dale Hunter and his crime fighting buddy, Frank the Fixer, were introduced in an explosive mix of crime and corruption in the computer business of the 1980s with NO EASY MONEY published in 2018, followed by SIMPLY THE BEST, and MERGER MANIAC. Del is continuing the series with three more novels – BAD BOYS IN BOSTON and CRASH LANDING in 2024, and WHATEVER IT TAKES in 2025. In addition to the Dale Hunter series of crime thriller novels, Del is also working on short stories and recently published Volume 1 of The KID from CALIFORNIA Series.
In 2020, he released second editions of his two business books first published in 2014, DON'T DO IT THE HARD WAY - Avoid the Seven Biggest Mistakes that Entrepreneurs Make, and The COMPLETE DO-IT-YOURSELF GUIDE to BUSINESS PLANS - Get the Results you Want from Start-up to Exit.

Don't Do It The Hard Way is a great user-friendly guide to starting your own business. Written in easy to understand language, it methodically goes through the steps, from just starting up to selling your successful business or retiring. The books includes handy checklists of mistakes to avoid and gives lots of helpful pointers and topics often overlooked by beginning entrepreneurs, including management, leadership, sales, and marketing. I found the book well written and informative, and being advice from someone that has been a successful entrepreneur for 3 decades, it is worth listening to-- he knows what he is talking about. I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway-- my thanks to Goodreads and the author!
I'm not an entrepreneur, but thoughts of starting my own business have crossed my mind a few times through the years it was never anything on a scale described in this book. That may be the reason why I struggled with this book. The first half of the book failed to hold my attention, and it didn't get truly interesting for me until the "Exit Strategy" section. This is where I recognized some situations I see in my professional life, and I found this section quite educational and think that many small and medium size business owners would greatly benefit from reading this section. While this was not a page turner for me, I can see how someone who is currently running their own business could benefit from reading this book. It is a fairly short ready and information it presents is concise and relevant.
This is my latest book and I hope you find it meets the objective of helping entrepreneurs to do better. It is based on the principle of entrepreneurs learning best by sharing stories with other entrepreneurs. Practical advice based on my thirty years of experience as an entrepreneur and consultant, coach, advisor and cheerleader for entrepreneurs.

Well written and full of good advice. As a former small business owner, I recognized some of the mistakes I made back in 2001 and wish I would have had a resource like this back then. If I were to take the leap again, which I was considering before COVID-19, I would be thankful to have this as one of my resources. Well done!
As a Purdue Chemical Engineering graduate with a Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, I can say with certainty that this book covers basically everything I learned in the entrepreneurship program while I was there. It is all neatly wrapped up in this book (with very handy checklists along the way). The one place where this book slightly falls flat for me is the 'Uncle Ralph' cheesiness, but that's more of a personal preference in writing sort-of thing. Other than that, very informative and covers basically everything one would need to know if looking at starting their own business. Very organized and detailed which is a plus if you are teaching yourself how to become an entrepreneur.
