This book is a helpful chess book that is useful for anyone who wants to learn or improve at chess. It has a variety of helpful diagrams; its vibrant colours make it easily to access for anybody of any age. It also gives some history of chess and lots of interesting facts.

Ever since I got this book from the library my whole family has got the chess bug! And I'm pleased to say that I am currently undefeated. Woo!

This is a really good book. Easy to read, informative, colourful - it's all good. I liked the references to Harry Potter and Star Trek, but was waiting for an X-men mention, and didn't get one. Oh well. This book takes you through rules and tactics of chess but also explores the history of the game too. Would recommend it to any chess player. :)

Well written. It is so nice to find a book that is this thorough, and yet targeted for young people. It captures attention of older, more experienced players as well and brings us back to the mentality of discovering this wonderful game in our youth. I would recommend this book for any young person who has questions about the game.

A solid introduction to chess, with lots of interesting material. Mostly very basic stuff, but probably not as helpful to learn to play as Story Time Chess. This goes more into strategy, famous chess players, and offers the beginnings of chess strategy when you play, so in that way it is a nice companion to Story Time Chess. Excellent for a kid interested in chess and wanting to know more.

A short but comprehensive book, with the history of the game, and numerous illustrated diagrams/problems of what to do, the next best move etc.
Also has a vocabulary at the back where the common chess terms are explained.

I can't play chess. I know how the game works, but I have no understanding of strategy. I checked this book out in an attempt to change that, but then had no time to actually learn anything from it. The book is written for children, thus making a good introductory book for any age. It is vividly illustrated and has links to every lesson to reinforce your learning.

Good book learnt some things from the book must I already know
