Rate this book
Is it the end of their love story or just the beginning?

Callum Roberts and Alice McClaren have spent two wonderful years building a life and a home and making plans for a future together. Callum is determined to prove to Alice that what they had was special, so he makes her a deal: he’ll recreate their first ten dates and make her fall in love with him all over again!

Suffering the effects of a car accident Alice has lost her memories of the last two years, this includes getting together and moving in with her brother's best friend, Callum. Callum decides to recreate the ten dates that started off their romantic relationship, to help Alice recapture her love for him and her memory.

I liked how the author gave us both points of view during the book, we mostly get Alice's but there are enough of Callum's that the reader gets a good understanding of him. We also get a few flashback memories of the couple's teenage selves, I wish there were more of them! The characters in this book were amazing. I loved Callum so much, he melted my heart and was so romantic. His love for Alice (Sparrow) lept off the page. Alice seemed his perfect match, the strength she showed through her ordeal was inspiring. I would love to have friends like the characters in this book.

The concept of a lost memory isn't a new one but the author manages a fresh perspective on the trope and given the circumstances she made it fun and the romance swoon-worthy.

‘We’re soulmates, sparrow. Your mind might have lost me, but your heart didn’t. Give it time.’

I can't begin to explain how much I swooned over the relationship between Callum & Alice. They were just so cute together! Everything that Callum did for his sparrow was just so adorable and I couldn't help but root for them to get back to having the dynamics they used to share before Alice's accident. Because Callum's love was pateint and pure. I liked the concept of the ten dates that was created. It added an element of excitement and I was eager to see what would they do on their next date and whether will Alice remember anything about those moments they spent together. I have to say, I loved every minute of when Callum tried to recreate their dates and develop a bond with Alice all over again. Every moment was enjoyable except the accident scare after the 90% mark which was unnecessary but other than that, I adored the story and the writing!

To be honest, I'd only picked this one up because 50 First Dates is by far, my most favourite rom-com ever. So, I kinda want to capture that feeling again. And this one delivered it. Kinda. It was more emotional and reminded me of The Vow more than it did the silly Sandler movie.

On the supposed-to-be the best night of their life, our girl here got wrecked by a drunk driver. It left her comatose for 3 months and when she woke up, she lost the memories from her last two years, the years when she fell in love with her annoying brother's best friend who was also her biggest crush. Ain't fate a bitch to these people.

It was pretty good, leans on the chick-lit vibe, was less smutty, and featured one of the most wholesome and sweet heroes I've ever read. My god, my ovaries are willing to unshrivel themselves up and get down with this man. Perfect boyfriend/husband material here, girls.

All in all, had a pretty good time reading this one. A nice relaxing read in fact, despite some amnesiac drama it has.

If you’re a fan of the movie 50 First Dates, this book is for you! Cute, slow burn second chance romance and not super cheesy.
Alice is in a car accident that’s left her with amnesia when she wakes from her coma after 3 months. She thinks fine, she’s lost three months, she will get over that, but in reality she can’t remember the last two years! In that time her brother and best friend have gotten married and got pregnant and she herself has fallen in love with her frenemy from grade school. But she can’t remember any of it! So her boyfriend, Callum, who has sat with her everyday while she was in the hospital challenges her to re-do their first ten dates and see if she doesn’t feel anything after that. And if she doesn’t then they go their separate ways, but if she does, then all is well. Callum hopes that recreating their dates in which they fell in love will trigger memories for Alice and help her remember their relationship rather than their childhood friendship/rivalry.
I wish there had been an epilogue to see how things were, say, a year later or whatever, but it was a cute little rom-com.

~Alice was in a car accident that put her in a coma for 2 months and when she finally wakes up, she thinks it’s 2 years prior. That Alice didn’t have a boyfriend but the man by her side says different. Callum will do whatever it takes to get the woman he loves back. Even if that means recreating their first ten dates to make her fall in love with him again.~

I couldn’t ever imagine something like this happening to me. Callum is a keeper, for sure! I liked how much everyone did for both Callum and Alice to help them out. Recreating their first dates was so cute! I did feel like Callum was a bit pushy at times though. Like, let the girl breathe.

I wish the ending wasn’t so abrupt and rushed. Or at least had an epilogue. It all happened so fast.

*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review with my honest opinion.*

This book had a really cute concept but poor execution. I was so excited when I read the Netgalley blurb, but I was let down. The writing felt lackluster and boring. Fortunately, it was a very quick read, and I was able to power through and finish. The book drops you into the middle of the story with Alice and Callum, so you don't feel any connection to them. You don't have any prerequisite knowledge of their relationship pre-coma, so you don't have any reason to root for them to stay together. I wish there was just a brief prologue of their relationship before all of this. This book had high potential, but failed in my opinion.

okay it took me almost one month to finish this and actually it’s worth it. it’s a second chance romance, slow burn, childhood friends to lovers and brother’s best friend. all of these are my tropes i love them so much. callum and alice are the it couple. their relationship is what i need in my life. alice got into an accident and she got an amnesia. yup i hate amnesia trope so bad. but this one was written so well. callum she a big green flag I LOVE HIM TO DEATH. he’s been through a lot and he deserves everything. this story has slow paced i would say. also, the plot it’s kind of predictable but still overall i enjoyed it very much. the ending was too rushed but at least it’s cute and worth it. so i gave this 3.5 stars.

*** ARC Review ***

This was a fun stand-alone romance that started from a bit of an over-the-top place (amnesia) but still ended up being a thoroughly enjoyable slow burn second-chance romance.

I loved Callum, his optimism and doubts, and his absolute steadfast devotion to Alice. While Alice wasn’t as lovable, she was absolutely relatable with her uncertainty as she tried to rebuild her life and reconcile what she remembered with what she forgot. Two great characters that you root for throughout!

What I loved about this:
✔️ second chance romance
✔️ slow burn romance
✔️ childhood enemies- to-friends -to- lovers
✔️ relatable characters

Rachel Dove is a new-to-me author but I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more from her!

Thank you to Rachel Dove, Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the chance to read such a well-done second chance romance ARC

‘We’re soulmates, sparrow. Your mind might have lost me, but your heart didn’t. Give it time.’ - Callum

THIS BOOK! If you like the movie 50 First Dates with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, then this book needs to be added to your list. Second chance romance, super cute, and not cheesy, Rachel Dove writes this book where Alice was in a car accident that had left her in a coma. After 3 months, she wakes up and she thinks she is okay, but turns out she can’t remember the last 2 years which include events like her best friend and brother getting married and pregnant. She also doesn’t remember the relationship she was in with her frenemy Callum (her brother’s best friend who she has known basically their whole lives).

When she is finally able to go home Callum is determined to get the woman he is in love with back in love with him. He recreates Alice and his first ten dates to try and bring her memory back of him and his love. Will it work?

What did I read… it all felt so random and stretched out. There was a lot of spelling mistakes. And the chapters did not make sense because there’s no needs to start a new chapter when the scene is the same exact as the previous one ended.

The first line defo grabbed my attention and the last page of the book but besides that …

I really enjoyed the story which, for me, means a 4. But I know I won't remember it in a week cause it wasn't remarkable, which for me means a 3. So settling on a 3.5 and everyone wins lol

The MMC was adorable. I hated the nickname sparrow tho. Sounded so cold everytime.

Thank you Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this arc.

I loved Callum Roberts and Alice McClaren. They were friends and enemies and all beetween in their lives. Family living closed togerher, experiencing many things together but never really together. Well one of them had no idea, one always knew.
After a car accident Alice wake up and has no memories of last 2 years. Hopefully Callum is patient and want to reconquest her by taking her to their first 10 dates. I fell for them and it was really hard let them go. Their dates were reall hilarious and the side characters were so nice. They made me laugh and cry. I was on the fence all the time.

Thank you Farah for reading this one together.

"Fate wasn't just a cruel mistress, it was a vindictive bitch"

Imagine losing a whole chunk of your memories, the memories where "friendship " develops into love and you have no idea how you came to love someone. Where your heart remembers, like muscle memory how to feel but your head just hasn't caught up yet and you feel like you're living someone else's life.

This was absolutely sweet, I'm in love with Callum and I don't often do 'book boyfriends' I adore the thought, effort and whole heartedness he put into his relationship with Alice and the way he recreated their first dates togerher to try to help Alice regain her memories.

The banter between Alice and Callum is something else. They are friends/frenemies to lovers, and their knowing each other goes all the way back to childhood, and the history they share can't be matched.

I could relate to Alice wanting her independence and hating relying on people and recovering after an injury. This was a moving book, that made my heart twinge.
If you enjoyed 50 first dates or The vow, where characters have to show love and start over , get a second chance then this is the book for you.

I haven't read any of Rachel Dove before, but she's certainly on my bookdar book radar) now.

I was excited to see this premise and was looking forward to seeing how the concept played out. Unfortunately the book did not live up to the premise for me.

The writing felt flat and repetitive. I did not warm up to either of the MCs. Alice, the main protagonist, came off as very immature and antagonistic. I wanted to feel empathetic for her situation but I just didn’t like her much. And Callum, the love interest, felt very two dimensional—attractive, devoted man who adores Alice. I didn’t get a lot of who was at all, even in his POV chapters. I didn’t feel the chemistry, just kept being told it was there.

The ten date idea is cute but the writing of the dates was uneven and left blanks and I found the narrative kind of choppy.

It’s a quick read, so even though I wanted to DNF more than once, so I pushed myself to finish it.

The book drops you right when Alice is waking up so there is no connection to the characters built up before the event that separates them. No strong feeling evoked of wanting them to be together.

A prologue or a flashback from Callum POV at the beginning may have helped this.

I felt this book had a lot of potential and missed the opportunity completely.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

(I was surprised when I came here to post that the author had so many other published titles. This book felt very unpolished and uneven to me.)

I loved this. I read it in a day - I couldn’t put it down. The amnesia trope can wear a bit thin but it didn’t here - I was just so willing the MC to get where she needed to be and dying for a happy ending. There was no unrealistic “I remember everything” moment, which made it all the more realistic and a bit heartbreaking at points. Totally gripping, but I was left bereft by NO EPILOGUE 😭

(Resenha em português mais abaixo)

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a book that I picked up mostly because of the synopsis. I could only imagine how sweet and devastating it would be to watch Alice and Callum falling in love again after she has an accident and loses her memory. The book did not disappoint.

I loved the fact that before dating they had been childhood friends. It added depth to their relationship, and I was relieved that they didn't have to start from scratch after the accident. Their love story is so sweet and beautiul, I could truly see that they loved each other in both "timelines". I also really liked Alice's healing journey, it was a joy to see.

This book made me cry a few times, but it also made me giggle and kick my feet at the cuteness of it all. Highly recommend!

A wonderful, easy and heartfelt read about Alice and Callum’s love that was too strong to ever completely let go of. Ten Dates tells the story of Alice and Callum, right after Alice wakes up from an almost three-month coma, set back two years in the past which leaves her forgetting her entire relationship with her boyfriend (and maybe more?) Callum. Apprehensive to how she could have ever fallen for her brother’s best friend, Callum attempts to rebuild their entire relationship the exact way it started: with ten dates. This book was such an easy and quick read, with all of the emotion of such a complicated and life altering event all wrapped into one. Callum’s love for Alice is so palpable and swoon-worthy. The way he puts his whole life on hold to help rebuild Alice’s world and regain her trust was beautiful. I adored this book, however I only wish it was a bit longer with more time to explore Alice and Callum’s relationship before the crash. Gaining more insight to their relationship beforehand would have definitely made me more in love with Alice’s character and understand her apprehension when waking up from her coma. I just wish I had more time with these characters to fall more in love. I also would have loved and epilogue to see what happens with Alice’s memory and a flash forward with her relationship with Callum. Overall, I loved this read! Perfect for fans of 50 First Dates, with an English spin! Thank you so much to Net Galley, Rachel Dove and Boldwood Books for this ARC!

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing an e-ARC in exchange of an honest review

Alice wakes up from a 3 months coma after being in a car accident with a memory loss of the last 2 years of her life, and with that she has no memory of how she fell in love and is in a relationship with her brother's best friend Callum.
as a result Callum suggests recreating their first 10 ten dates that made them fall in love, and by the end of it if she doesn't fall in love with him again he would leave.

first of all this is one of my favourite reads this year.
I loved that the story didn't feel repetitive to other romance books I've read, and the book is a dual POV so we got Alice struggling with her memory loss and not remembering her relationship with Callum and we got Callum dealing with the love of his life not remembering loving him.
Alice and Callum were written very beautifully and despite that their second chance love story was a slow burn it was interesting all the way through
I loved the secondary characters Lewis and Migs they added the comedic aspect to the book (I'd love a book about them).

When Alice wakes up from her coma, she has no memory whatsoever of her relationship with Callum. Callum is determined to show Alice how much she means to him by recreating their first ten dates, hoping the dates will either jog some memories or failing that, have Alice fall in love with him all over again. Will the plan work?

You know those amazing books that from page one, you just KNOW it's going to be something special? This one is just that. I was hooked right from the start of this story and couldn't wait to find out how the book ended. I felt so sad for Alice and the situation she was in and poor Callum, for standing by her even though she had no inkling how important he was to her. The two shared such an intense relationship - I could feel it so strongly through the author's words. I only have high praise for this second chance romance - definitely pick it up if you get a chance!

Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book has one of my favourite romance tropes with the second chance romance. When Alice wakes up from a coma she can’t remember the last two years. Her nemesis Callum tells her they are in love and have a life together but she finds that unlikely. Callum decides they will reenact their first 10 dates to see if that will bring back her memories of him. The dates are fun and we get a better appreciation about what an exceptional person Callum is. I was bothered about the portrayal of Alice’s parents with the stereotypical overbearing but well meaning mother and the henpecked father. Usually I don’t mind these types of characters but in this situation I would have liked to have seen more well rounded non stereotyped parents. The pacing of the book was good and the two main characters were likeable. Overall the ending was good but a bit rushed.

Read if you like:
💝 Second chance romance
🔥 Slow burn romance
👫 Childhood friends-to-lovers

My thoughts:
I think this book started off as a cute and lighthearted romance. You could really see how much Callum cared for Alice, he did everything for her. He was definitely a keeper! Sometimes I really felt sorry for him, he struggled a lot to make Alice remember her life with him.
💘
I struggled to like Alice though, her actions sometimes were very unrealistic. It felt like she didn't put so much effort at all to give Callum a second chance.
💘
I liked the ending though, but it felt kind of too rushed and I wanted to read more of what happened with everything...

Thank you to netgalley and boldwood books for the advanced copy.

This was such a disappointing book. The premise had potential but the execution was not there. More than 1/4 of the book takes place before they even leave the hospital - I found there was a lot of overlap between what the main character was thinking and the dialogue taking place, in the beginning. The singular star is truly just for the male main character. I thought he was written very well and I enjoyed the part he played in the story.

Overall, I thought the plot was slow and there was a lot of repetition throughout. The main character was acting like too much of a martyr and a brat for me to really enjoy the story, though, unfortunately.

This was a cute little romance book with a great concept. I really wanted to love it but it fell short of my expectations.

The writing was a little flat and the pacing was quite uneven. The male love interest character wasn't developed very well, it felt like his only personality trait was being in love with the protagonist.

Overall, it was a quick pleasant read that was missing the depth to get me emotionally invested in the story.

It was a nice and easy read.

Considering that this is a 270 odd page book, it did take a while for the actual dating to start though. I think it took about 100 pages for us to get out of the hospital and get into the 10 dates that the title promises. That being said, the dates were cute but slightly rushed. Characters were likeable, although the whole 'can I ever love him like before' thought processes was too repetitive

This book was super cute and fun to read! The chemistry between the main characters was pretty good they had that flirty, kind of awkward vibe that makes you root for them.
I loved the idea of the whole “10 dates” thing, but honestly… they didn’t even go on ten dates? That part kind of threw me off. I was waiting for more creative or funny date ideas, and then it just sort of skipped ahead.
Besides that It gave me the cute romance feels and I liked the characters a lot. Just wish it had stuck to the title a bit more…
