The Living Light Dialogue Volume 1: Spiritual Awareness Classes of the Living Light Philosophy
This book is a series of spiritual awareness classes that were given through the spiritual mediumship of Mr. Richard P. Goodwin, the founder of the Serenity Association, and are part of the Living Light Philosophy. They are transcriptions of the classes, which cover a wide range of topics, including the relationship between our attitudes and our experiences, personal responsibility, divine laws that govern life, mental laws, the nature of thought, how the mind works, soul faculties and sense functions, to name a few. This volume includes Discourses, Seminars, Sayings, and Consciousness Classes. While each class appears to bring progressively higher teachings, each, nevertheless, stands by itself and is attuned to both the beginning as well as the advanced student. This series of classes were given to a group of students of the philosophy. This book is the first volume in the series entitled The Living Light Dialogue, and many more are to be published. The Living Light Philosophy consists of the spiritual awareness classes that were given through the spiritual mediumship of Mr. Goodwin. Any student of life will find in this philosophy, through the published books and audio recordings, the teachings necessary for the mind’s awakening to the truth of the soul’s eternal expression. The teaching in and of itself is a continuous flow. The teacher, expressing through the mediumship of Mr. Goodwin, speaks of the neutrality of God, evolutionary incarnation, soul faculties and sense functions and their corresponding locations in the anatomy, the power of peace, the law that whatever happens to us is caused by us, and many other personally demonstrable laws which will constantly expand the student’s awareness. These teachings are invaluable as tools to further your knowledge of the universal laws of life. The methods, discourses, and exercises given are useful, practical, and pertinent to your everyday living as well as to your higher aspirations. This spiritual philosophy affirms that our soul, our true being, is inseparably a part of the Divine and reveals the spiritual laws and the divine laws that govern all life and how we may apply those laws for our greater health, wealth, and happiness. The very foundation of these spiritual teachings is the Law of Personal Responsibility, which states in part that we are responsible for all our experiences. By the laws that we establish with our thoughts, acts, and words, we are the creators of all our experiences in life. Our experiences in life are reflecting back to us where we are in consciousness. In this understanding, God is not a creator, but God is a divine, neutral, infinite intelligent Energy that sustains all life. Another divine law that is emphasized is that like attracts like and becomes the Law of Attachment. In addition, great emphasis is place on understanding on how we may, through self-control, more effectively use our minds to accomplish our goals and experience the goodness of life. The philosophy helps us to discern between the thoughts of our mind and the gentle promptings of our soul. These spiritual teachings are filled with inspirational quotes, affirmations, spiritual sayings, and spiritual exercises. The Living Light Philosophy offers a path to a conscious awareness of our own divinity, but it is up to us to make the effort to walk that path.

I have read this book several times and each time I read it I perceive more and gain greater insight. So, one of the first things to understand about this book is that it is very dense with teachings. There’s a lot of bang for the buck. And it’s not a book with a traditional beginning, middle, and end. This book is transcriptions of classes given through mediumship. And there are two basic types of classes: the discourses, which are short and often allegorical, and the consciousness classes, which are longer and are very wide ranging in topics, because the students asked a wide variety of questions. The index is very helpful when I have a specific interest. In thinking about the teachings in this book, I feel there are two areas of focus: there is a great amount of teachings regarding the spiritual laws that govern all life and how to apply those laws for our greater health, wealth, and happiness (like the law of merit, the law of attachment, and the law of attraction) and there is also much emphasis on how our minds actually work and how to work with our thoughts and our emotions. It also has many spiritual exercises (like the fountain exercise and the ocean exercise), as well as many affirmations that are designed to help us awaken spiritually and improve the quality of our lives. Some of these exercises I use each and every day. And I feel my life has improved as a result of my effort to apply these teachings.
A representative quote from this book is, from Discourse 47, “As more thought is generated and directed to the Divine, the Divine begins to awaken within our being.”
I recommend this book to anyone who is seeking a broader spiritual understanding and anyone who has ever been troubled by the thoughts of their mind.

I received this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway.
I would give fewer stars if possible. I found this book offensive as well as difficult to read. The idea of God as no more than a divine intelligence and not the creator offends me. This reminds me of a cult, the information is from "the mediumship of Richard P. Goodwin" from someone known as "the old man." I find this very confusing and reading the text only confused me further. The farther I read in the book the more offended and confused I became. If you are looking for a new religion based on one man's talk with "the old man" this may be for you. If you are comfortable in your faith and God, do not read this text.

Very interesting classes in spiritual studies on the inward journey. Beginning of the book the classes are a very intense dialogue on the processes of how to change your life's experience and the pit falls of
the mental world versus the spiritual world. The second part of the book is more relaxed, a more casual interchange with teacher and students in great detail as to how to progress on the inward journey of spiritual practices, hugely detailed, and wonderfully informative. Great for the beginner student with infinite details for the advanced student.
