quick read

It was a very quick and easy read, it didn’t provide many techniques to use aside from the ones that are well known(PMR, self affirmations, validating statements, etc). It wasn’t as insightful as I was hoping it would be, but provide some eye opening perspectives sprinkled throughout. All in all a good book to read and it’s quick.

I loved this workbook. I read it cover to cover in a week and have done numerous work on myself. This workbook will take you to places that will hurt but will free you in the long run. I still have a lot of work to do with my inner child. I’m 66 years old and my inner child is just starting to heal. It’s a process over time and well worth every minute invested. Not every piece of information will pertain to your situation, however there is an abundance of practical questions, journaling tips, thought provoking information to help you through. When I first opened this workbook and flipped through it, I didn’t want to do it. It felt painful and made me nauseous. I almost returned it. I HAD to do the work!! I literally forced myself at first but once I got rolling, I became freer with each chapter. I’m an avid journaling junky so I used this book to write anything that came out. My heart is so much lighter now.
I can highly recommend this workbook. I have not read the regular book that goes with it, there is also a dvd I believe. You will not be disappointed!!!

Useful and interesting but redundant at times

This books is definitely interesting and, at times, illuminating too. It does have a lot of useful information on how to deal with the traumatised child within each of us and how to come to liberate and accept our past.

My only critique pertains to the choice of formatting. There is a never-ending and frustrating, numbers of paragraphs, subparagraphs and, especially, a never-ending numbers of bullet points. This is on top of the fact that many points are just simply repeated over and over and make some parts quite redundant. I noticed this in particular when towards the ends of the book the 'boundaries' parts were repeated over and over again by rephrasing them (as it happened with other topics as well), making some parts unnecessary filling.

This could have been an exceptionally informative short book to go back to in times of needs, but rather it is a 116 pages book that, in my opinion, reads and feels like it is 500 pages long.

However I want to thank the author for the time they spend writing it and for helping out regarding some specific topics that made me think and resonate with.

A Holistic Approach to Healing

This book serves as hope and guidance for those grappling with unresolved childhood traumas. I felt total relief while reading this book. Relief because I am not crazy and there are answers. I felt a complete transformation and self-discovery. In this workbook the author provides information on how to reclaim emotional stability and inner growth. Scars from the past can run deep and dictate our present actions and emotions.

The exercises are about learning who our inner child is, self-awareness, attachment styles, and self-sabotage. I learned to unravel negative thought cycles, learned about empowerment, daily affirmations, self-compassion, a sense of worthiness and well-being. I never thought about writing my inner child a letter before this book. I think my future is going to be brighter now.

We can’t heal if we don’t acknowledge our wounded inner child

This book is so important to read for those of us who had a less than perfect childhood and have pushed those wounds aside. Maria Clarke is a professor of psychology and has studied the concept of the inner child extensively. She makes a very good point that the inability to respond to an adult situation appropriately may be a sign to look deeper into your past. I took this to heart and learned a lot from things that she said in the book about reparenting my inner child and learning from the past. Showing my inner child that she is loved, protected, and accepted has been a game changer for me. I’m really glad I found this book.

I loved how the book was laid out, everything was simple, direct and to the point. I received a lot of information about things that I should be doing on my own to help work through my issues related to my childhood trauma. This book gets to the heart of the matter very quickly which I appreciated. The book provides a step-by-step guide which includes exercises and activities to help you understand your thoughts and feelings. It provides methods to dissolve lonliness and cultivate a sense of self-esteem and belonging that I personally felt were very effective. I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone interested in working on healing.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for better understanding and connection.

This workbook helped me tremendously, not only to examine the past but to help me deal with the present. Cognitive Behavior Therapy is the game-changer that gives a different perspective on your situations with better coping strategies. The workbook was a great interactive guide to make you think and help with understanding of how you deal with certain relationships and situations.

Healing book

I think many of us suffer from trauma without even realizing it, now I know that I am afraid of abandonment and I am an extremely dependent person, and this book came at the perfect time to free me from a lot of guilt.

Much Needed

This was a wonderful read as I sit in jury duty, waiting. As a counselor, I know many of the techniques but now I am more inspired to dutifully apply them to my own life as I have encouraged those I've counseled to do.

Powerful

I have plenty of baggage from my childhood and even since. There are many useful techniques and I look forward to seeing a difference in my own self. I know it won't be overnight but I can't wait to break the cycle so I don't put my own baggage on my kids.

A total waste of time and money. Full of errors, horribly edited if at all, and honestly was so repetitive and had VERY few exercises. I’d hardly call this a workbook. It could be helpful for someone I’m sure, but it was not for me whatsoever.

I was recommended this book by a therapist this year. I finally decided to reach out for help with my childhood trauma and the messages in this book allowed to understand myself and my view of the world in a new light.
