Rate this book
""An Introduction to City Democracy's Challenge to the American City"" is a seminal work written by Benjamin Clarke Marsh in 1909. It remains relevant today as cities continue to face many of the same challenges that Marsh identified over a century ago. Understandably one of the classics of city planning. Not as entertaining or as contemporary in the concept of planning, it is, however, a powerful reminder of the role of city planning to improve the public health, that planning is more than a well designed city, but a healthy city. Granted, we don't have the outbreaks of cholera and typhoid we did 100 years ago, but the book serves as a good reminder that our residents don't just need parks, our buildings need light and air.
