Grab Your Slice of Financial Independence

Rate this book
This book is written for all those that live paycheck-to-paycheck or have been through financial hardship, are tired, and want more for themselves and their families. After her divorce, Monica found herself in just such a position, taking on single parenthood, and $257,000 in debt. Shortly after, she lost her job and would be unemployed for 22 months over the next five years, losing one temp job after another. Even with many setbacks, she still managed to achieve financial independence in a ten-year period. Her commitment and courage to her over-arching goal of never relying on a paycheck and wanting a better life for herself and her kids, kept her focused and propelled her forward even in the most difficult of times.
Grab Your Slice of Financial Independence shares her story, from her watershed moment of divorce and financial devastation to financial independence. Here, she outlines how you too can achieve your definition of financial independence with grit, perseverance, and courage.
This book also features a foreword written by Doug Nordman, coauthor (with his daughter Carol Pittner) of Raising Your Money-Savvy Family for Next Generation Financial Independence.

Monica Scudieri’s Grab Your Slice of Financial Independence is one of the most relatable and practical financial books I’ve read. She doesn’t just give advice—she tells her story. And what a story it is! After her divorce, she found herself buried in $257,000 of debt, struggling to provide for her kids while constantly losing jobs. But instead of giving up, she made a plan and worked her way toward financial freedom.

One of the things I love most about this book is that it’s not just about cutting expenses and saving money. Monica talks about the mindset shifts needed to break free from financial stress. She also gives clear, step-by-step advice that’s easy to understand, even if you have zero knowledge about finance.

Her journey wasn’t easy, and she doesn’t pretend it was. She faced countless setbacks, but her determination and focus kept her going. That kind of honesty is rare in financial books, and it makes this one stand out.

Another great thing about this book is that it’s not written in complicated financial jargon. Monica writes like she’s talking to a friend, which makes it so much easier to absorb the information.

If you’re tired of living paycheck to paycheck and want a real plan to change your financial future, this book is a must-read. It’s practical, inspiring, and incredibly empowering.

Monica’s story is one of grit, determination, and smart financial choices. She found herself in a position that many people can relate to—struggling with debt, a single mom, and dealing with job uncertainty. Instead of giving up, she took control of her financial future and achieved financial independence in just ten years.

What really struck me about this book is how personal it is. Monica doesn’t just share numbers and financial strategies; she talks about the emotional side of money—fear, stress, and the pressure of providing for a family. It’s refreshing to read a finance book that acknowledges the real-life struggles behind the numbers.

She also keeps things practical. There’s no complicated jargon or unrealistic advice—just real steps that anyone can take. From managing expenses to finding new income streams, Monica lays out a clear path for those who want to improve their financial situation.

I also appreciated the focus on mindset. Financial independence isn’t just about saving money—it’s about changing the way you think about money. Monica’s determination and focus are proof that anyone can break free from financial stress with the right approach.

If you’re looking for a book that’s both inspiring and useful, this one is worth picking up. It’s a story of resilience, and it’s filled with valuable lessons for anyone trying to build a better financial future.

Struggling with debt, raising kids alone, and facing job losses, she had every reason to give up. But she didn’t.

I've worked with Monica for years, and she's not just a great colleague but also a good friend. She knows a lot about personal finance and is always happy to share what she’s learned. It’s been really inspiring to see her journey—from teaching people about money to starting a blog and now writing a book on financial independence.

I really enjoyed her book because it wasn’t like the usual finance books that can be dry and boring. She keeps it practical and easy to understand, sharing real-life experiences that make the advice more relatable. The book is definitely worth the price, considering the amount of useful information she packs in. It’s perfect for anyone just starting out in life and trying to figure out how to manage their money. What I found most helpful was her take on investing in houses—she covers things that other books tend to skip over. If you're thinking about getting into real estate, this is definitely a book you should read!

I picked up this book thinking it would be another financial self-help guide, but it turned out to be so much more. Monica Scudieri doesn’t just give generic advice—she shares her real-life journey of overcoming massive debt, single parenthood, and job loss. Her story is raw and emotional but also incredibly empowering.

What I really appreciated is that Monica keeps it real. She doesn’t pretend financial independence is easy, but she shows that it’s possible with the right mindset and strategies. She breaks down what she did, step by step, in a way that anyone can follow.

One of the most powerful takeaways for me was her focus on perseverance. Life threw everything at her—debt, unemployment, constant setbacks—but she stayed focused and made it through. That kind of determination is something we can all learn from.

I was really looking forward to reading this book, and it did not disappoint! Once I started, it was hard to put down, but I had to slow myself down just to take in everything she had to say. Monica keeps it real—she’s relatable, funny, and super insightful. There were so many truths in here that really hit home.

One part that stuck with me was the quote about her dad. I never met him, but the way she wrote about him made me feel like I could hear his voice. It was such a nice touch.

I also love that she’s working on a workbook! I took so many notes while reading because I didn’t want to forget anything. If you're looking for a straightforward, honest take on finances—especially as a single mom navigating today’s world—this book is for you. I’ve had the chance to meet Monica, and she’s as real as they come!

This was a really good read! The author opens up about her personal journey, including some tough financial mistakes she made during her marriage, many of which were made worse by having a partner who wasn’t responsible with money.

I found it really interesting how real estate played such a big role in her story. She went from struggling to leveraging rental properties to gain financial independence as a single mom. The book uses a “pie” analogy to break things down in a simple, actionable way, helping readers move past financial mistakes and work toward stability. Plus, the fun song references sprinkled throughout made it an enjoyable read. Definitely worth checking out!
