I stumbled on this novel in an opportunity shop's 50 cents bin. It turned out to be quite a find, with beautiful prose, and confronting dialogue. Mr Broughton, besides his several novels, was an accomplished poet, which shines in his lovely descriptions of the American landscape. This hard-hitting family saga about a daughter's longing and search for a never known father and mother does not deserve to be lost, which I fear will be its fate, as I reckon it is well out of print by now. Highly recommended reading.
