Lisa Fremont is a rising young lawyer gifted with a brilliant mind, natural beauty -- and an alluring sensuality. A newly hired law clerk on the staff of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Truitt, Lisa has a bright future. She also has a past that her curriculum vitae doesn't reveal....Long before she was Lisa Fremont, Esquire, she was Angel, an underage stripper in San Francisco's Tiki Club. And long before Max Wanaker was president of Atlantica Airlines, he was the wealthy benefactor who took her off the streets. Max, who knew a good bet when he saw it, took his angel far with a devil of a deal -- now, he's calling in the debt. Three years ago, on its approach to Miami International, Atlantica Flight 640 crashed, claiming hundreds of lives and sparking a multimillion-dollar legal battle that is about to come before the Supreme Court. The swing vote belongs to Sam Truitt, and Max is depending on Lisa's expertise in the art of persuasion to save Atlantica. Lisa knows there's only one way to get Justice Truitt's vote: put aside her passion for justice and get into Truitt's life, into his head -- and into his bed. In the Machiavellian maze of political intrigue and personal betrayal that is the Supreme Court, Lisa Fremont and Sam Truitt could make one hell of a legal team. But inside the hidden sanctums of the halls of justice, there's only one rule to live by: stay one step ahead of those who live by no law at all.
The Genius and the Tramp Fight Fascists in 1930's Hollywood
MIDNIGHT BURNING - September 2025 “Ingeniously pairs real-life friends Albert Einstein and Charlie Chaplin on a roller coaster ride to save America from a fascist threat within its borders.” – Jacqueline Winspear, author of the Maisie Dobbs series.
Award-winning author Paul Levine weaves historical figures into a gripping, true-to-life plot to overthrow the U.S. government in the sizzling thriller MIDNIGHT BURNING.
It's 1937 and clouds of war gather over Europe, and American fascists march at home. While the FBI chases suspected communists, Nazi agents plot an armed insurrection. When the world’s two most famous men–Albert Einstein and Charlie Chaplin–uncover the scheme, which includes the assassination of Hollywood’s biggest stars, they fight back with nothing but their ingenuity, raw courage, and the fierce resolve of Georgia Ann Robinson, LAPD’s first Black female officer.
Levine—praised by The New York Times for his “realistic, gritty, and fun” novels—delivers a breathtaking thriller laced with humor and a larger-than-life cast, including Charles Lindbergh, Douglas Fairbanks, William Randolph Hearst, and Joseph Goebbels.
"This could be Levine's masterpiece." - Lee Goldberg, New York Times #1 Bestselling Author

STILL GOING STRONG:
CHEATER’S GAME is a stand-alone entry in the Jake Lassiter series.

"Drop everything...Read it now...BUM DEAL is fantastic." - Lee Child
Много приятно трилърче за Върховния съд и неговите вътрешни скандали, самолетни дела, адвокатски неволи, изобщо, глътнах го неусетно. Обичам съдебни трилъри, а Ливайн се справя много добре с тях.
The plotline is very naive, to say the least. There is one single ex-cop running all business of the Japanese mafia in USA. He is doing absolutely everything alone - killing people, installing hidden cameras into other people's homes, managing financial activities and so on... And the others are just terrified by him, although as I said he is just a single man. He demands from Lisa to join the Supreme Court as an assistant of one of the judges, so she applies immediately and is hired, of course. Save your time and find a better book to read.
I listened to this abridged audiobook through an afternoon of housecleaning (hey, don't knock it 'till you try it). This was fairly decent. I'm not a huge fan of legal thrillers - I've only read one or two Grishams, and never before read Levine, but the storyline was interesting and, to me at least, fresh in the choices of characters. A former stripper/bad girl, Lisa was rescued by Max, who supported her through law school and has just called Lisa in on a very big favour.
He's placing her with a Supreme Court Justice, and he wants her to sway his vote on an airline case in regards to a terrorist-related crash. But as Lisa learns more of just who Max is - and what he's done - and the case seems more and more of a conspiracy to hide the Airline's lies, she feels herself swaying in her loyalty, not to mention falling for the Justice in the first place.
This romantic angle between Lisa and the Supreme Court Justice that seemed a little forced on the abridged audio version - they fall into bed and love at about the same time, which is somewhat abrupt, and I was somewhat surprised at the time. Still, for thrills, this delivered - there's chases, gunfights, and everything one expects from a rough and tumble legal thriller with edge. Especially in audiobook format (and read well by Bamman), this was enjoyable.
An Atlantica airplane fell out of the sky killing all 288 people on board. According to the authorities, a terrorist bombing was the cause. The families of all 288 passengers and crew are sueing the airline for negligence. Specifically maintenance of the aircraft thinking this is what brought it down not a terrorist bomb as stated.
This book really spins around Lisa, Max, Shank, Tony, Greg and Sam. The law clerk, the airline owner, the airline heavy, the pilot (Lisa's lover), the pilot's son and the supreme court justice...in that order. Lisa comes from a troubled background and Max has literally pulled her from the gutter and set her on the path to a legal career. Lisa feels obligated to Max to help sway the supreme court justice (however necessary) so he will rule in the airlines favor. Shank is the bad guy terrorizing Lisa, Max and Greg. There is a coverup going on and Lisa is determined to see the airline pay for the death of her lover.
A great mystery and very suspenseful. Unfortunately I picked up an abridged version of this book and surely missed all the good stuff. The audiobook was terrific but I think the full printed version would have been spectacular. So if you have the choice, choose the full version.
Legal Thriller - Lisa Fremont is a law clerk for new Supreme Justice Sam Truitt. In this far-fetched thriller, she was a stripper before being the mistress of an airline CEO who put her through law school and now wants her to influence the Court ruling on an upcoming case involving the airline. Naturally, she and the unhappily married Justice become attracted.
Absolutely loved this book! I would say this is probably my favorite book from one of my favorite authors! The characters are very real and this is what Paul does best!
A very different book than the Steve Solomon and Jake Lassiter series. This book is a thriller, not a humor novel like the other Paul Levine books I have read. More Grisham than Hiaasen!
