This volume reprints issues 12-15 of Matt Wagner's "Mage" comic book series. The Limited Edition included a slipcover, was autographed by Matt Wagner, and had a print run of 1500 numbered copies. Volume Three of the Limited Edition had a solid white cover.
Matt Wagner is an American comic book writer and artist. In addition to his creator-owned series' Mage and Grendel, he has also worked on comics featuring The Demon and Batman as well as such titles as Sandman Mystery Theatre and Trinity, a DC Comics limited series featuring Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.
I thought that this would be a happy ending, where good prevails and all is well and everybody is left smiling with a few life lessons under their belt. I
I found myself disliking Kevin in this collection. He was whiny and selfish and I wanted to shake him hard and rattle some sense into him. Thankfully he stepped up to the plate and took swing.
Love the original Mage series. I haven't read it about 15 years or so. But I remembered all the Arthurian stuff and especially the use of colors for each issue. Lots of cool monsters and battles in the final issue as Kevin makes his way thought the Styx building.
You can really see Matt Wagner coming into his own as an illustrator over the course of this book, with rough airbrush work slowly giving way to the more fluid, painterly style of the "interlude" at the end.
