What motivates the self-sacrifice of a martyr? What prompts a bright professional to leave a satisfying career to become a missionary? What moves some people to spend their lives in menial forms of Christian service, when they could have earned wealth and status elsewhere? Dr. Dennis Kinlaw believes the critical question is not what, but Who causes people to do these things. He further believes the answer is found in Scripture. This provocative study describes how the Holy Spirit can completely transform a person's thinking. Indeed, the Scripture says that the Spirit can give any believer "the same mind that was in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 2:5). In The Mind of Christ, Dr. Kinlaw explores what this means for every Christian.
Any book by Kinlaw is theologically solid and will push you to grow closer to Jesus. This one is the clearest explanation of the sanctified life that you'll ever read.
"The texts I have mentioned do not point us toward a system of philosophy or a set of religious beliefs. They are not challenging us to live by a certain creed. To have "the mind of Christ" is to have his perspective, his attitude, his affections and priorities." (p. 14)
"Christ came to deliver us from the destructive tyranny of self-interest... The purpose of redemption is to undo our distorted orientation - to turn us outward, so that we are not interested in ourselves, but in the well-being of others." (p. 101)
Wow. Kinlaw is a master. This is one of the most powerful books I've ever read! Why oh why did I put off reading this book until now? I can't remember the last time a book impacted me personally, spiritually, as much as this one has just done! Read it. Read it now.
I am amazed at Kinlaw's ability to explain rich theology in such simple language. The book's brevity and use of illustrations make for an easy read, but you're still left with much to ponder. What a beautiful way to present the message of holiness.
