Seventy-two selections from books and from such journals as J. of the Japanese and International Economies, World Development, and Brookings Papers on Economic Activity, to name but a few, are presented in four volumes, with an introduction by editor Heather Smith (Australian National University). Drawing together papers on Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, coverage includes factors behind development (including the impact of the financial crisis on each economy); macroeconomic settings and policy regimes (with a focus on monetary policy, fiscal policy, and financial sector development); the external sector and human capital formation as catalysts for growth (labor markets and income distribution); and industrial structures and the debate over the role of public policy. There is indexing by name in each volume, but no subject index. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Lots of good stuff about Northeast Asia economics of the 1950s to 1980s. Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and a bit of Hong Kong were the focus - though an article did look at Southeast Asia, too. Not all selections are statistical reviews; some are straight-up historical reviews. It's a good buy and a good read, in my opinion.
