Such a detailed book, which covers so much ground on a relatively small island. Loved how well researched it was - with footnotes and refernces! - as well as the easy 'voice' of the author.
This is a fascinating and readable history of Islay that grew out of a dissertation. It includes geography, geology, and early human habitation, but the majority is about the peoples, cultures, politics living there the last 1500 years, with emphasis on 17th Century to present. It is well researched and has helpful illustrations. If you are interested in Islay, it's the book for you.
