A bit advanced for my one year old but I think I'll save it for our homeschool area. It's got short enough educational blurbs, a few activities, & lots of pictures that make it a nice overview of Flamingos.

THis book about flamingos has 44 pages. On page 49-57, there are 4 activities you can do that are related to flamingos--Make a flamingo, Make a flock of flamingos, Flamingo Cane, Flamingazine, and Bits-and-Pieces Flamingo.

On page 17, it asks "Why do flamingos eat with their head upside down?" Flamingos have tiny teeth on their beaks to strain tiny food bits out of the water. By turning their heads upside down and moving their heads back and forth, flamingos filter the food out of the water. The little comb-like teeth keep the food in and let the water go out."

A picture book, with a mix of pictures of flamingos drawn and photographed. I purchased this book with my 2.5 year old granddaughter. Last year, when she visited us in Florida, we didn't get to see flamingos (other than the plastic ones!) but I bought her a cute little stuffed flamingo that she promptly named "Fingo". This year, when she comes to visit us with her older brothers (10 & 8), we hope to go to a zoo and see some live flamingos. Since this might bring up lots of questions, I hoped to have this book to share with her. I'm not sure it will work as a "sit down and read" book but great for turning to the appropriate question and answer "chapter" that is usually only 2 pages long. I also think my grandsons will enjoy it although it appears to be book for younger children.
