About the author

Nigel Warburton is Senior Lecturer at the Open University and author of a number of popular books about philosophy.

Warburton received a BA from the University of Bristol and a PhD from Darwin College, Cambridge and was a lecturer at the University of Nottingham before joining the Department of Philosophy at the Open University in 1994.

He runs a popular philosophy weblog Virtual Philosopher and with David Edmonds regularly podcasts interviews with top philosophers on a range of subjects at Philosophy Bites. He also podcasts chapters from his book Philosophy: The Classics.

Bu konuda yazılan güncel kitaplardan. Özellikle öğrencilerin, yazmaya yeni başlayacak olanların işine yarayacak teknikler içeriyor. Başlangıç seviyesi için iyi, ilerisi için ise yeterli olacağını düşünmüyorum.

Güzel başlayan kitap, sonrasında direk öğrencilere yönelik didaktik bir hal alıyor. Ortaya temel bir deneme yapısı koyması iyi, basit tüyolar da veriyor.

"Yazmaya başlama engelleri" ve "kendi tarzınızı tesbit edin" bölümlerinde ciddi farkındalık edindim. Diğer bölümleri çok basitti. Bu tarz kitapların en sıkıldığım bölümü olan noktalama işaretleri ve yazım hataları da eksik değil.

Sonuç olarak temel bir yazma yapısı anlamak için iyi, bir iki bölümü oldukça keyifli ancak genelde ortalama bir kitap.

Nigel Warburton zekasını sol beyninin değil, sağ beyninin emrine verdiğimde çok daha unutulmaz kitaplar yazıyor.

I wish I had this one when I first went to college. Warburton provides a concise, useful initiation into the aspects of college paper writing (why do it at all, what sorts of mistakes especially annoy paper graders) that are rarely addressed formally in the classroom. There is an especially good diagnostic section called "Do you recognize yourself here?" Be aware some of the vocabulary assumes that the student is studying in a British setting, but I would get this would be as welcome and necessary a gift to the college bound as Strunk & White.

Really good book with working tips step-by-step, I am a writer, nothing new for me but its good to read before writing for inspiring.. I'd recommend this book to students and those who are still exploring the medium or just starting.. Sometimes such books can help me write a essay, get some good ideas.. Kitabın başlığında “deneme” terimi tercih edilmiş, bu nedenle ilkin edebi metinlerle alakalı metodolojik tavsiyeler okumayı bekliyordum. Fakat kitap her şeyiyle hızlandırılmış bir kompozisyon veya makale kursu. Bazı editöryel hatalar hariç beğenerek ve tek seferde okudum. Kalemi, klavyeyi eline yeni yeni alanlar için küçük fakat faydalı bilgi ve tavsiyeler içeriyor. Bu kitabı okuyanlara, daha geniş kapsamlı metinler için yine babacan bir üslupla hazırlanmış benzer bir kılavuz olan Umberto Eco’nun “Tez Nasıl Yazılır?” adlı kitabını da tavsiye edebilirim.

Nigel Warburton'ın Alfa Yayınları'ndan çıkan eseri "Deneme Yazmanın Temel Kuralları" Ahmet Fethi Yıldırım tarafından dilimize kazandırılmış. Yazarı yine Alfa Yayınları'ndan çıkan, felsefe serisinden de tanıyor olabilirsiniz. Öncelikle bu sene okuma planlarım arasında yazmak üzerine "Kuramsal" kitaplar olduğundan bahsetmiştim. Bu da onlardan biriydi ama hemen ve tam da bu yüzden uyarmalıyım ki bu eser daha çok akademik ya da haber yazımı üzerine temel bir kaynak olabilir. Yazmak ve yazarlık üzerine şeyler yok mu? Elbette var ve bazı "Yaratıcı Yazma" kitaplarından çok daha iyi olduğunu da üzülerek söylemeliyim. Kitaptan kendime yönelik önemli veriler elde ettiğimi söyleyip özellikle kendimde deneyimlediğim son (üç) sözü yazar Nigel Warburton'a bırakayım. ilki; “Unutmayın; bu kitabı okumak, yazmanın alternatifi olmamalıdır. Deneme denilince insan edebiyat türü olan denemeyi düşünüyor ama aslında kompozisyon nasıl yazılır üzerine odaklanmış bir kitap. Pek fazla bir şey katmıyor insana açıkçası. Yani sadece başlangıç seviyesinde olanlar için eh işte. Tabi bu arada çeviren ve yayınevinin de bir hatası (veya kasıtlı) olduğunu da belirtmek lazım. Kitabında orijinal isminde Essay nasıl yazılır deniliyor. Essay de daha çok akademik konularda kullanılan tam Türkçesi "kompozisyon" olması daha yerinde olacak bir kelime...

I came to Sydney for 6 months and today I believed with my English so i decided that write something i thought. First time I came to new school, I felt worried and i couldn't understand what did they said. But now, I feel my English is improving more and more. It's really great! Awesomely helpful guide..before essay writing was just about brainstorming and then putting everything on a piece of paper..I wouldn't say I was planning or making some strategies, I just simply stated what I thought about the topic..surely this worked but my writing process was chaotic..I wouldn't say my essays were well-organized..my ideas were all over the place and to put everything in order I had to ask to write my essay for money..well not to write actually but to edit..and now thanks to this book I can do all the organizing myself
