In Thin Line, the police code of silence is tested when officer Rita Sanchez’s eight-year-old son, Shareef, witnesses the murder of his grandmother and other family members. The next day he is hauled off to the precinct and questioned inappropriately by the police after he’s involved in a riot at school. At the precinct, he recognizes a cop as one of the assailants from the murder scene, which begins this gripping tale of deception, graft, and murder — and a young boy's loss of innocence and coming of age.
What do you do when your loyalty is tested to the max? Who do you believe in the heat of the moment? Will family or career come first?
In Thin Line we meet Shareef, an eleven year old boy, whose mother is a police officer. Shareef is a smart young boy who experiences some trials that will mark and shadow his view of life. Shareef is opened up to a world that he has not been a part of at all in his eleven years. He goes from worrying about an NBA game, bullies at his school, and a teacher who has it in for him to police corruption, murder, and mayhem. Will he come through unscathed or will he be swallowed up in the mire?
Shareef experiences loss of his best friend and her family, grandmother, aunt, and cousin in a short amount of time. The clock is ticking and he has uncovered evidence of corruption that is leading back to the very job that his mother holds dear. Will his mother believe him or will her job take precedence? Will Shareef's life be left hanging in the balance or will his mother save him? Will his mother's eyes be opened up to the corruption or continue to be blind?
Whyte penned a tale that makes you keep reading and engaged in the story. You want to know what is going to happen and will young Shareef overcome all his trials? A great read that I would definitely recommend for all ages.
